Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Jazz Trombone, Bigband Phrasing, Cornet, Flugel Horn, Euphonium, Eb horn, Trombone and Tuba. All to grade 8 and higher. I also teach four part harmony, scoring, arranging and band conducting.


Tell me about your qualifications.

What kind of experience do you have?
Born in 1951 in Seven Sisters in the Valleys of South Wales. Malcolm and has been steeped in music his entire life; as a professional musician, teacher, conductor, arranger and composer. He has been playing music since the age of seven, when he joined his village Brass Band in Seven Sisters. At the age of fifteen, he joined the Welsh Guards Band, and studied music at the Junior Musicians Wing, Guards Depot, Pirbright for two years and a further two years at the Royal Military School of music Kneller Hall. Malcolm was principal Euphonium there for 7 years. Malcolm currently lives in Cardiff.
Malcolm has played at the Royal Albert hall/ Royal Festival Hall / Madison Square Gardens/ Hollywood and all over the USA/ Leeds Opera House/ Buckingham Palace/ Wembley Stadium/ National Stadium Cardiff/ Windsor Castle/ Cardiff Castle/ Saint David’s Hall/ Caesars Palace Luton/ The Dorchester Hotel/ The Piccadilly Hotel/ The Royal Garden Hotel/ The Ritz/ The Everyman Theatre/ The Theatre Royal Bath/ and most major theatres in the UK. Malcolm has played for I have played for Royalty and Heads of State on many occasions/ Malcolm Has recorded for BBC & ITV, both Radio and Television, and recorded lots of LP’s.
Malcolm has worked with many famous stars, Including Tom Jones/Sammy Davis Junior/Sir Harry Secombe/Marion Montgomery/The Four Tops.
Malcolm has recorded at Abbey Road Studios/CTS Studios Wembley. Malcolm has played for the variety club of Great Britain/Command Performances and lots more that he's forgotten. “It was while studying composition under Arthur Butterworth that I discovered my ability for composition". Malcolm obtained an BA Honours degree in "Band Studies" from Sheffield University in 1999.
Malcolm has scored the music to sixteen animated films commissioned by S4C and Cinetig and numerous arrangements and for wind band and brass band. Malcolm is also expert at producing music for film from his home computer and is a member of Composers of Wales.


How much do you charge?
I charge £24 per hour for all lessons plus 20p per mile if I travel to you. For young beginners they would usually have half hour lessons in the early stages and the charge is £12 pounds per 1/2 hour. Theory lessons can be included with instrumental lessons with the hour.


Where do you teach?
I teach at home which is in Cardiff.


When are you available?
Usually efter 1pm untill 8pm Mon to Fri. Sometimes I'm available on a Saturday Morning.


Which ages and levels do you teach?
all ages all standards.


Do you have a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
I have been checked several times.


Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I teach on MSN messenger, so you will need a web cam.
