Personal Message
An experienced oboist based in London. A friendly, enthusiastic and considerate teacher. Happy to help whether you are entering an exam/audition or learning for fun.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
Oboe, Cor Anglais, Music Theory (up to Grade 5) and Chamber Music coaching
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have completed a Master's degree in Music Performance with Distinction at Guildhall School of Music & Drama and I have a Bachelor of Music degree from Royal Academy of Music.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have taught privately for three years or so and I have coached groups at London Symphony Orchestra Discovery courses and at Wigmore Hall.
How much do you charge?
I charge £30 per hour or £18 per half hour for Oboe, Cor Anglais and Chamber Music coaching and £25 per 45min session for Music Theory (up to Grade 5).
Where do you teach?
I live in Barnes (SW13) and am happy to travel to my students' homes within reasonable distance. If travelling time exceeds an hour each way I ask for £5 extra.
When are you available?
As I am chiefly a freelance musician, my availability is very flexible. I am also available to teach during most of school holidays.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
All ages, all levels (except Music Theory up to Grade 5) are welcome.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
Grade exams, auditions and concerts. Or just for fun!
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
I do not have a current CRB check as I teach privately.
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
Although lessons are without doubt most beneficial face-to-face, I am happy to carry out e-mail lessons for Music Theory. You will need to own a scanner&printer and I ask for weekly payment of £15.
Where and with whom did you train?
I studied with Valerie Taylor at Chetham's School of Music; with Celia Nicklin, Tess Miller, Emanuel Abbuhl and Jill Crowther at Royal Academy; and with Gordon Hunt, Richard Simpson, Alison Teale and Jane Marshall at Guildhall School. I have also played in masterclasses with Jonathan Kelly, Francois Leleux, Maurice Bourgue, Jacques Tys and Alexei Ogrintchouk.
