25 years of teaching English as second language at University and 5 years of teaching Russian as second language privately.

Tell me about some of your current students.
I am a U3A ( University of Third Age ) Russian tutor. I have had two permanent listeners for four years. They started as absolute beginners in Russian, we actually started with studying Cyrillic alphabet. Now these people can speak and write survival Russian and read Russian books with dictionary. They go to Russia on a regular basis and they told me that our lessons really helped them a lot.
Do you have a personal message for students?
I have a useful tip for language learners. From my own experience I know how important it is to study a language regularly, at least every other day and for at least 15 minutes. It is the regularity that matters, like with physical exercises.

A Really Good Textbook Means So Much
For beginners I recommend Beginner's Russian by Rachel Farmer. It is a self-study book which introduces learners very comfortably to basic vocabulary and grammar. It is accompanied by CDs / tapes.
