Interview
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Maths from GCSE up to A level, including further maths, mechanics, statistics and decision maths modules. I also teach GCSE German (I am bilingual, thanks to my German mother).
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a maths degree from Cambridge University and a masters degree in applied statistics and operational research from London University.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching maths in independent schools for the past two years, prior to which I worked in the City of London for 17 years in investment banking and consulting. I am married with a daughter in Year 9, who enjoys me helping her with her maths homework. I tutored her to pass her 11+ exams and I have tutored a number of GCSE and A level students, including further maths, over the past three years.
How much do you charge?
I charge £35 per hour for A level and equivalent and £30 per hour below that. An initial 30 minute consultation is free of charge. For appointments further than 5 miles from my home I charge an additional fee per mile for travel expenses.
Where do you teach?
I usually tutor at students' homes, although I am happy to offer tutoring from my own home in Eastbourne if you prefer. I cover the postcodes listed, including Eastbourne, Brighton, Hove, Lewes, Hastings, Haywards Heath, Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells.
When are you available?
I am currently available some mornings, afternoons or evenings, either during the week or at weekends. Please contact me to check my availability.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach GCSE and A level, so mainly ages 13 to 19 (Year 9 to Year 13) inclusive, but also 11+ and Common Entrance maths.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
Yes. Enhanced disclosure certificate issued 23/6/2009 and renewed 24/7/2010.
What Can You Do With a Maths Degree?
I never knew what I wanted to do at school. In fact, I never really knew I was good at maths until my teachers suggested I try for Oxbridge. Anyone who is serious about reading maths at university will need to study maths and further maths at A level, but one of the keys to giving yourself...
