Interview
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Trumpet, Piano/Keyboard, Theory of Music, Violin and Guitar.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I hold an Associated Board Grade 8 for trumpet, Grade VII for violin, Grade V for piano, an honours degree for Music and a post graduate diploma in music therapy.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have 10 years experience as a full time instrumental tutor working for Haringey Education Services, teaching music in schools as well as plenty of experience of private teaching experience dating back to 1978.
How much do you charge?
I charge £24 an hour. First lesson is free. I don't charge any extra for group lessons.
Where do you teach?
I teach at home or at students' homes. My nearest tube station is Tottenham Hale. I live a short walk away from the tube station.
I am very happy to teach pupils at my own home and can visit pupls' houses if this is arranged in advance. Please bear in mind that I do not currently own a car.
When are you available?
I'm currently available at any time excepting Thursday evenings.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I have pupils of all ages. I teach Trumpet and Piano/Keyboard up to Grade VI, Theory of Music up to Grade V (and GCSE), Violin up to Grade III and Guitar up to Grade V.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
I do not have a current CRB check although I have completed several in the past and I have an application currently being processed for Haringey Music and Performing Arts Centre.
Do you have a personal message for students?
As much of my experience over the last 25 years has involved playing rock music and jazz I would feel quite happy to incorporate these elements into my teaching programme, but most of my piano teaching is based around classical studies.
Music as Exploration
Playing the piano is something which I initially did for fun and as an exploration of the possibilities of sound, and this approach informs my approach to teaching. If a pupil is goal driven and merely wishes to get exam grades under their belts then this approach can certainly be catered for...
