- Personal Message
- It is vital that any young student of music is given an informed, open-minded, flexible and positive environment in which to learn.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach jazz trumpet, with focus on improvisation and theoretical awareness, as well as a grounding in and continuation of correct trumpet technique.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I currently study on the BMus jazz course at Trinity College Of Music, having obtained a scholarship upon entry.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I began playing trumpet at 8 years and gained a classical grounding, picking up jazz at the age of 17 shortly before having technical lessons at Guildhall School Of Music and Drama. I have played alongside prestigious British jazz musicians in performance situations such as Clark Tracey, Julian Siegel, Mark Lockheart, Nikki Iles and Don Weller, and have been taught by Steve Waterman and Martin Speake in my time so far at trinity. I have also had extensive technical lessons with Paul Cosh at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. I have had a previous student to whom i successfully gave a strong technical grounding and basic theoretical knowledge, and who showed great enthusiasm for jazz.
- How much do you charge?
- The first lesson will be at a reduced rate of £15, and the normal rate of £25 will include any travel expenses within South East London. I strongly believe in the benefit of one to one teaching, and so do not offer group lessons, but other than this will teach anyone who wants to learn.
- Where do you teach?
- I am based in Greenwich, and can travel to students' houses anywhere in South East London. If students wish me to come further, travel expenses will be added to the fee of the lesson. Unfortuantely I am unable to teach at home.
- When are you available?
- Weekends are preferable but i am open to weekday evenings (after school) or daytime Wednesday to Friday.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I am happy to teach both beginners and more advanced players.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- I do not.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
- I will ensure that students who come to me receive a solid technical grounding, and will aim to give the best possible start both musically and in terms of technical facility for continuation as a hobby or as a serious vocation.

Musicality and Knowledge
It is vital for anyone who hopes to gain an understanding of music as a performer to have a very well rounded experience. Not only listening to the music that we play but being open to a wide range of influences is a massive part of the learning process that can so often be forgotten when teaching young students. Much emphasis is (rightly)...
