About Mitch
- What kind of experience do you have?
Playing experience- Royal Albert Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Hammersmith Apollo (w/ Amy MacDonald), Glastonbury Other Stage (w/ Elbow), Secret Garden Party, La Scala, London Underworld, Henley Festival, Holders Festival Barbados, Brisbane Festival, Purmerend Festival Norway, Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
I have toured extensively with my string quartet, all around the UK, and private functions and festivals abroad.
Teaching experiece- I have taught the violin and the drums privately at my family home in Crystal Palace for the last 3 years, and my pupils have had pupils ranging from 5 to 16 years old.
I studied the Suzuki method (violin) when I first started learning, so I use some of the techniques that this offers, including games and rhymes to make learning more fun for younger students.
For young drummers, I teach a very relaxed technique called Moeller, which helps players learn to play with minimal effort. For more advanced drummers, I specialize in teaching double-kick patterns and advanced hand techniques.
I have also occasionally taken chamber music groups for rehearsals when I was at high school and on summer music courses.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes
- Where and with whom did you train?

Privately with David Webster (Drums)
Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (Darren Ashford, Justin Scott, Neil Martin) (Drums)

- Which subject(s) do you teach?
Violin, Viola and Drum Kit.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
Grade 8 on the Violin and Drums. I studied the violin at Junior Royal Academy of Music (Scholarship) and then Royal Northern College of Music (Scholarship) on a Bmus course. I have also studied at the Institute of Contemporary Music, where I graduated in July 2012.
- How much do you charge?
£25 an hour for all instruments.
I am happy to travel up to 5 miles, but I add £5 extra for travel.
I am not willing to travel to teach the drums unless the student has an adequate drum kit- if it is an electric kit, it must have means of being heard apart from through headphones. If it is an acoustic kit, it must have all the relevant hardware- stool, pedal, cymbal stands.
- Where do you teach?
At my family home in Crystal Palace, or at students' homes. Nearby towns are; Norwood, Penge, Anerly, Brockley, New Cross Gate, Sydenham, Forest Hill, Dulwich, Peckham, Central London, West London, South London, South East London, East Croydon, South Croydon.
- When are you available?
I am freelance, so my working hours change each week. Please contact me!
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
Any age, any level, from 5 years old upwards!
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
All grades on all the instruments I play.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I gig fairly regularly all year round, and I belong to 3 different original bands and groups. Please feel free to check these out to listen to the music or watch the videos.
My first group is called 'Bowjangles', and we are a string quartet with a difference! We all play, sing and dance at the same time. We have been invited to play at Glastonbury and Secret Garden Party for the last 3 years and have gigged all over the world. You can check us out on (concealed information)
My second group is a metal band I formed 3 years ago called 'Karybdis'. Metal is my favourite genre of music to drum, and we have recently had a lot of very exciting things happening, as well as recording our first ever music video which you can check out on (concealed information)
My third original group is a pop/rock group called 'Me and the Mountain'. I usually play drums, but also play violin at some of our accoustic gigs. We also have a music video, and the group is picking up speed very quickly and getting a lot of attention. (concealed information)
I also play in a string quartet and string sextet, since chamber music has always been a passion of mine!
I am a working musician, so if you are looking to learn an instrument with the goal of gigging yourself or forming your own band or group, I am happy to help out in any way I can.
