Interview
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I mainly teach the oboe but also teach the clarinet, flute and saxophone at beginner level. I also teach music theory up to Grade 5.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I hold a degree in music from the University of Sheffield and a masters degree in performance from the Royal Northern College of Music. As well as performance, my studies at music college involved also classes in instrumental teaching techniques.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have been playing the oboe for 13 years, and have a wide variety of experience in performing both as a soloist and orchestral musician. I have been teaching woodwind privately for nearly 3 years. I also lead music workshops aimed at various age groups between the ages of 8-18, both in and out of school, and have been involved with planning and leading residential music courses, in which young people created and performed music and learnt about different aspects of staging a concert.
How much do you charge?
Dependent on the student's ability, I start with half hour lessons for beginners and increase to hour lessons for more advanced. The cost is £30 per hour (£15 per half hour)
Where do you teach?
I am based in West London and am happy to travel to students homes
When are you available?
I arrange lessons on a week by week basis as I have a very varied schedule.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages. I teach the oboe to all levels, and clarinet, saxophone and flute at beginner to intermediate level (approx. grade 5)
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
I have a CRB disclosure certificate.
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I usually work via email, and will set tasks to be done each week, with explanations of the ideas and topics covered. I am also available to be contacted by phone for tutorials.
