Interview
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach singing to all ages and abilities. Pupils can either have specific goals e.g grades or auditions, or they can just learn for fun.
I can also offer vocal coaching for help with song interpretations and pronounciations, sound production, breathing techniques etc.
I teach oboe from beginners up to Grade 5 standard, again just for fun or with targets in mind.
Tell me about your qualifications.
ABRSM voice grade 8 distinction
ABRSM oboe grade 8 distinction
ABRSM music theory grade 5 distinction
ABRSM piano grade 5
What kind of experience do you have?
I am a student studying BMus (hons) voice at the Birmingham Conservatoire and I have been lucky enough to study under great teachers. I am an experienced performer myself, both as a soloist and in ensembles or choirs. I am in the National Youth Choir of Great Britain and have recently toured America with them. I have been a member of many orchestras including London School Symyphony Orchestra and performed in many amazing venues.
I have experience in teaching younger children basic songs and drama and have also worked with disabled adults.
I am currently looking to broaden my experience with older children/young adults but obviously I am delighted to teach people of any age.
How much do you charge?
£20 hour or £14 half hour.
Where do you teach?
I can teach from my home in central Birmingham (off Broad street) where I have a keyboard. I live 15 mins walk from Snow Hill and New Street stations and 5 mins walk from any buses going down Broad street.
I am also willing to travel to students' houses within the Birmingham area. Depending on accessability of the student's house I may charge for travel.
When are you available?
Lessons can be arranged on a personal basis with the student, but I am generally free after 6pm during the week and anytime over the weekend. I am free through most of the school holidays.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
All ages. Any level for singing and from beginners to grade 5 for oboe.
Do you have a CRB disclosure certificate?
I have been checked and cleared for previous jobs working with vulnerable adults although I don't hold one outright.
Where and with whom did you train?
I went to the The Purcell School of Music for my A levels to study as a singer and oboist under Tom Marandola and Rachel Baldock respectivly. I currently study at the Birmingham Conservatoire as a classical singer under Cathy Benson. I am also a member of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain under Mike Brewer and other smaller choirs in my spare time.
