Personal Message
Hi, I'm Nathan. I'm a professional saxophonist based in Central London. I'm a friendly, enthusiastic and reliable teacher who believes that everyone can enjoy making music.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
Saxophone is my main instrument which I am happy teaching to diploma standard and above. I am also able to teach flute, clarinet and music theory to intermediate level. I am also able to help with GCSE and A-Level music.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I am currently studying for a BMus (Hons) in Saxophone Performance at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. I have Grade 8 Saxophone and Grade 6 Music Theory.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching for 5 years privately, and was also a woodwind coach at Xaverian College, Manchester, before moving to London (2008). I have also attended a set of teaching seminars at GSMD. I have also worked at a teacher for the Guildhall Connect scene; a programme which runs workshops for beginner instrumentalists on Saturday mornings.

I often play sax, clarinet and flute in various shows in and around Greater London and have played, Les Miserables, Belshazzar's Feast, Pictures at an Exhibition and more with various orchestras around London.

I am also a keen chamber musician playing both tenor and baritone saxophones in my quartet and the Guildhall Saxophone Ensemble and soprano saxophone with my Saxophone and Percussion Duo.
How much do you charge?
I charge £15 for a half an hour lesson and £28 for an hour. Travel expenses are worked out on a case by case basis.
Where do you teach?
I teach at home (Barbican, City of London), but am also willing to travel to anywhere in Greater London to teach. However, extra fees may be charged for travel expenses and time.
When are you available?
My timetable is very flexible, I am able to accommodate most daytimes and early evenings, including weekends.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I have taught all ages from 5-55 and people of all standards; and from the very first lesson right up to degree level entrance exams and diplomas.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
If students wish to prepare for ABRSM grade exams, I am perfectly happy to follow this route up to Grade 8 (Grade 6 for theory). However, whilst it is nice to have the certificate for your efforts, I am also happy to teach pupils who do not wish to take exams for whatever reason.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
Yes.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
Incorporated Society of Musicians
Where and with whom did you train?
I currently study at GSMD with Christian Forshaw, and John Harle (Classical), Mick Foster (Jazz), and Nick Moss (flutes and clarinets).
Do you have a personal message for students?
Most importantly music should be enjoyable. Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions!
