Personal Message
I am a semi-retired teacher with experience of some 20 years in total in general education of which about 8 years as a tutor teaching on a one to one basis. I have lived in England since 1971 and have completed my teacher training at an English University. I have spent some years in the Netherlands where I'm also qualified to teach English as a Foreign Language. I have taught English to a variety of foreign students at a University in the Netherlands as well as privately at home. In England I taught as a class teacher and a special needs teacher. I have been a year coordinator in a local Middle School for many years. Although officially retired, I do enjoy teaching and thus would like to continue sharing my expertise/knowledge with my prospective students.

I have taught English at Middle School age and lower Upper school age for about 15 years. In addition, I have experience in translating Dutch into English and when working with University students and Lecturers I have edited their work/ theses and policies.
How much do you charge?
I charge 20 pounds per hour for individual lessons, but am willing to negotiate a fee for a slightly larger group. Travelling expenses would be added where appropriate. Short courses could be available too. Fees for editing is negotiable and charges for translation work would be 11p per word.

Tell me about some of your current students.
At the moment I'm teaching pupils with Special Needs. In addition I teach several foreign students who want to improve their English: a Swiss student, a Japanese student and a company director of a recruiting agency in the Netherlands who wants to improve his Business English. We concentrate on all aspect of the English language such as grammar, pronunciation, idioms, other vocabulary, but also cultural aspects of England. I teach a year 5 student in preparation for either Private School entrance or 11+ examinations. In addition I have two adult students learning Dutch as a second language.

My aim is and always has been to provide comfortable and safe teaching surroundings with a personal education plan which has been put together after thorough discussions between the prospective student (and where appropriate their parents) and myself.
How to Accelerate your Learning!
In my experience it is very important that English as a Foreign Language is taught in a relaxed way. It takes quite a few lessons to move up a level, but a student can accelerate his or her learning by learning topics in depth. Some examples: you could watch a DVD with subtitles and do this a...
