Personal Message
I'm a professional bass player living in North London. I work as a freelance musician for a living, playing for various bands and studios/producers, as well as writing with and for other artists.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach jazz/improvisation, as well as pop/rock/soul and most other genres on Double Bass and Bass Guitar. Learning is as much about the pupil as it is the teacher, so I encourage students to actively participate in the direction of the lessons. I also coach bands and groups in performance/rehearsal techniques, as well as group writing projects.

As well as instrumental lessons, I teach theory and songwriting.
Tell me about your qualifications.
Most recently I studied at Trinity College of Music, under Steve Watts, Corin Long, and Simon Purcell. I studied A-level Music and Music Tech in Southampton, and before that I finished a one year course at Basstech in Acton.
What kind of experience do you have?
My experience in Music has been extremely varied -from performing live across most of the planet, playing in film sessions and album sessions for several modern popular artists, to playing live for radio sessions and tv broadcasts. I have also collaborated with several songwriters, as well as writing my own music. The life of a musician can be incredibly rich if you're open to the possibilities of different types of work.
How much do you charge?
I charge £25 per hour, and £15 for a consultation lesson.

Travel costs will only be charged for group workshops, or students who require home tuition but live a long way away. -I'd prefer students with individual lessons to come to me, however if it's suitable I am willing to travel.
Where do you teach?
I teach from home, although I am willing to travel if necessary. I live around the Finsbury Park area of North London, close to Camden, Turnpike Lane, Enfield, Hornsey, Crouch End and Wood Green. Transport links are right next door, so it's easy for students to travel on the tube or the bus.
When are you available?
Any time before 7pm including weekends is normally fine, although this might occasionally be subject to change due to performance commitments of my own.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I'm willing to teach all levels and ages, as long as the desire to learn is there.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
I don't have an up to date one, but if necessary I'll have it re-done.
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I prefer to teach in person, however for songwriting I believe it's possible to do this online. It involves a lot of sending of written music and recordings, and written feedback. For one to one chats skype is sufficient.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I belong to the M.U.
Where and with whom did you train?
I trained under several teachers from an early age. Most recently however, Steve Watts, Corin Long, and Simon Purcell.
Do you have a personal message for students?
Music is the language of the imagination and the soul, and a musician must learn how to communicate in this language as effectively as Shakespeare could communicate in his. It is for this reason, and this reason alone that we dedicate ourselves to being technically proficient, expressive, creative players and writers. Having said that, it should also be a lot of fun. -Music, whilst being a serious art form, is also incredibly beneficial for peoples everyday lives. It can help with coordination, memory, creative thinking, imagination, communication skills, group confidence..the list goes on!
