I hope to make each and every pupil's learning experience as enjoyable and fulfilling as possible. It is important to give each student encouragement and set them goals to achieve, but above all to feed their passion for music.

Interview

Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach the Piano, Oboe and Cor Anglais from beginner level to Grade 8+. I am also available for Aural tuition and Music Theory lessons.

Tell me about your qualifications.
I have just completed a Bachelor of Music degree at the Royal Academy of Music on the Oboe. I hold a DipABRSM on the piano as well as the LRAM teaching qualification.

What kind of experience do you have?
I have taught the piano for over two years and have pupils ranging from the age of 5 to 65, all of mixed abilities. Since 2006 I have worked on a summer music course in Hampshire that endeavours to educate and inspire young and eager musicians between the ages of 5 and 18. My particular area of work includes introducing the youngest group (age 5-7) to the world of music, encouraging them to develop their musical skills, whether it be through learning songs or exploring a wide range of musical instruments.

How much do you charge?
I charge £30 pounds for 1 hour, £25 for 45 minutes and £20 for half and hour. For Oboe and Cor Anglais lessons, I would recommend a minimum of 45 minutes per lesson.
A consultation lesson would cost £15.

Where do you teach?
I am based near Shepherds Bush and currently travel to pupils' homes. I am willing to teach in nearby surrounding areas.

When are you available?
I am available to begin with new pupils starting in the Autumn term of 2010 but will be happy if anyone would like a consultation lesson before then.
My teaching availability is generally flexible throughout the weeks and weekends. I am also happy to teach throughout school holidays, depending on what the pupil prefers.

Which ages and levels do you teach?
I will happily teach anyone of any age and any ability.

Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I have prepared pupils to take part in ABRSM exams as well as local music festivals. I aim to make the music experience as enjoyable as possible and therefore tailor my teaching to the ambitions of each individual pupil.

Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
Yes.

Where and with whom did you train?
I studied as a joint principal pianist and oboist at the Purcell School for Young Musicians, learning the piano with Roshan Magub, the Oboe with Melanie Ragge and the recorder with Barbara Law. In 2006 I began my studies as an Oboist at the Royal Academy of Music with Celia Nicklin, but continued to learn the Piano with Graeme Humphrey. I have maintained both instruments to an equal standard and was awarded post-graduate places on each instrument individually.

Making the Most of Your Skills

The biggest key to successful progression in anything that you do is practise. It doesn't have to be a huge amount, but regular time slots spent just playing your instrument, or covering particular areas that you find difficult make the world of difference to how quickly you progress on your...
