- Personal Message
- Hello! I enjoy teaching all students levels of Maths, English, Reading, Writing and Art. My extensive work experience includes England, America and Taiwan in the educational sector.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- Maths, English, Art (drawing, painting, ceramics, photograpy, sculpture) and theatre acting.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I have a Bachelors (Hons) degree in Fine Art (practical and theory) from Leeds University
My BTEC diploma in Further education teaching is from Calderdale College, Halifax - What kind of experience do you have?
- My educational background is in art and theatre (10+ years) and my professional background is in education and business (8 years). I also teach English to children and foreign students/adults in college and university from South East Asia who are looking to improve their conversation and writing skills.
I work as a teaching assitant with years 3,4 and 5 children with comprehension, reading and maths. I teach in an after school arts club and I have also worked as a teaching assitant with Nursery and year 2 children. I have also taught a year 11 art class in a reputable north London school and spent 2 months assisting in year 7 and above classes. I have 8 years experience acting in theatre productions ranging from musicals to Shakespeare (small to lead roles). - How much do you charge?
- I charge £15 per half hour and £25 per hour per person (travel expenses included in these prices). I only do group lessons in art and theatre acting. The same prices apply.
- Where do you teach?
- I teach at home or at students' homes. I live in Turnpike Lane (just below Wood Green). The area it's in is called Haringey and I'm willing to travel 1 hour away by tube.
- When are you available?
- I'm available in the day time after 4pm and in the evenings. During school holidays I'm very flexible in teaching during the day.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I teach from year 2 all the way through to university level. I also teach mature students.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- G.C.S.E, A-Level, Foundation Art and BA Degree.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- Yes.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
- One of my maths students who I am currently teaching is an 8 year old boy (year 4) in a Hampstead school. He has moved from America so there are educational differences in the England curriculum.
One of my art students is in their mid-30's and is starting to learn to draw and appreciate art from the most basic level. They go to portrait and life drawing classes.
I teach a dyslexic 12 year old boy that needs help to improve his English, reading and writing skills. My youngest student is 6 and is preparing for a 7+ entrance exam into a central London prep school. - Do you have a personal message for students?
- I graduated in 2003 so whatever level you are at I have an extensive collection of books and materials to expand your interests. I teach all my students with patience and understanding so I'll make sure you 'get it' in the end : )
My Articles
Life drawing and Ceramics
I recommend reading books about Leonardo da Vinci to further your knowledge about life drawing and composition to do with the human form. Picasso also experimented in a lot of ceramics and this is something which surprised me as Picasso is more famous for his painting.

My Testimonials
|
Mr. Oliver Becket has been tutoring my 9 year old son for 5 months and has proved to be an invaluable support. Our son is transitioning from the American school system to the British school system, and the new system follows a markedly different, and more advanced, curriculum. - Sylvie Lockhart |
|
Oliver has helped our son not only to master key concepts but also to remain confident and not to become discouraged by the challenge. I recommend him without reservation to any parent whose child requires additional support in mathematics. - Sylvie Lockhart |
