Never think of it as being too late to re-train or educate yourself along a different career path, particularly if you have a passion for the subject.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
Primarily I teach Adobe Photoshop, Photoshop Elements and Adobe Illustrator specialising in entry level tuition to beginners, novices and intermediates. I use Photoshop across the entire range of my other professional activities (photo/image repair and manipulation, retouching, fashion photo editing, surface pattern, digital embroidery image prep and fabric design, garment pattern design, PowerPoint slide design, publicity material etc). My Illustrator tuition has a particular slant towards creating fashion flats but as with Photoshop, the tuition is geared towards getting users up and running with the software with confidence.
I have found that at the very least, a basic knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator can be very empowering to those wishing to work in the creative industries, and even those who want to work with image manipulation software for solely leisure/hobby photo editing. In addition to teaching Photoshop, I lecture widely at Universities across the UK on artistic professional practice to undergraduates in all aspects of Art & Design.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I graduated from University of Wales Institute in Ceramics with Distinction in 1998. Four years prior to this I graduated from the same University with an Honours Degree in Ceramics. My route to Cardiff was paved by a BTEC in General Art & Design from Huddersfield Art College. Huddersfield nurtured my interest in Art into a passion, my undergraduate taught me how to realise my ideas in clay, my post graduate taught me how the development of ideas should not be constrained by artistic media or previous learning.
What kind of experience do you have?
In terms of working with Adobe Photoshop, I have 12 years experience working with this industry standard software in a wide variety of roles in both corrective and creative modes. I am currently the resident Photoshop tutor at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, teaching a course of my own design tailored to mature learners aged between 20 and 90 years of age. The aim is to arm learners with the essential tools common across all versions of Adobe Photoshop and Photoshop Elements and to approach what can be a very complex piece of software, with confidence and purpose.

Regarding general experience, and in addition to formal teaching posts mentioned earlier, I have devised and delivered family arts events for museums, galleries, schools and theatres for over 15 years in a wide range of subjects and working with groups from pre-school, primary and secondary education, young people from troubled backgrounds and adults with sever learning difficulties. My longest standing employment has been with the Victoria & Albert Museum producing and delivering family art workshops for many of their temporary exhibitions since 2000.

I also run workshops for specialist arts groups and corporate clients.
How much do you charge?
In terms of Photoshop/Illustrator tuition, £35 per hour with a minimum 3 hour booking or £175 per 5 hour day per person is my starting rate with reductions for additional students (groups of 2, 3, 4 etc) and reductions for consecutive days booked. Clients will meet all travel expenses where considerable travel costs apply but this is always cleared with clients first. I am happy to travel throughout the UK for bookings of 2 days or more but the client must meet costs for travel and accommodation. I also have specialist corporate training rates and family rates. Contact me for further details.
Where do you teach?
I am happy to give at-home or at-work tuition, delivering tuition with the client on a computer with which they are familiar. I also offer corporate staff training in Photoshop and Illustrator. I am also currently (since early 2009) the resident Photoshop tutor at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. Delivering a course of my own design to entry level Photoshop users.
When are you available?
I am more than happy to fit in with the clients requirements and am available through all holiday periods, Bank holiday and weekends for the same rate. Best to get in touch and mutually convenient dates can be arranged.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I specialise in teaching adults but enjoy teaching families as a group (this is based on my experience of working with families at the Victoria & Albert Museum for over 10 years.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
My tuition is not aimed at attaining a particular qualification, more a skill set. Photoshop and Illustrator knowledge can be applied across so many subjects that I keep the tuition broad with room to focus on particular aspects of the software's creative capabilities specific to the client/learner.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
My last full CRB check was performed in 2008 and I have had regular checks throughout my educational career, all of which are clean.
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I do not offer online tutoring but as part of the face to face tuition, I offer a 2 week window of email support. I also give all learners a set of PDF files covering the days tuition, point them to specific online tutorials useful to their requirements and introduce them to online Photoshop mimics which can be used in conjunction with Photoshop. The tuition by no means comes to an and at 4pm so to speak!
Tell me about some of your current students.
One of the most encouraging things my students tell me is that by the end of one of my sessions, they say they feel as though they have learned and understood more about Photoshop in that one session, than on any previous Photoshop course they have taken. Their responses make me feel I'm delivering the correct level of tuition to specific learner groups. It's what has made me join The Tutor Pages in the first place.
Do you have a personal message for students?
Follow your passion and do not be afraid to change direction should the passion change.
