University of St Andrews - Advanced Diploma in Jazz - What kind of experience do you have?
- As a player I have had a wide range of experience playing in different ensembles as a member and guest across a wide variety of Genres in many different countries.
Some of the groups I have played with include the European Jazz Orchestra 2011 (as Britain's member), Grand Union Orchestra, principal trombone of the Guildhall and Paris Conservatoire Symphony Orchestras, Music Theatre Wales, London Sinfonietta Academy, National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland, Brighton Early Music Festival, young artist at the Beijing International Trombone Festival and Funkshone.
I have had success in composition as including a broadcast on German radio of my Brass Quintet performed by Carnyx Youth Brass at the Philharmonie Essen and a performance of my piece Turbulent Times on Jazz Line Up BBC Radio 3, both of which I performed in.
I am currently in my final year at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and also studied at the Paris Conservatoire as part of the ERASMUS scheme. As a result of this, I have had much experience in ensemble playing and teaching through both establishments.
I find teaching hugely rewarding and have taught privately for the past 3 years for a wide range of ages (5 - 40) including taking workshops in schools in Brighton with up to 100 children aged 5-9. - How much do you charge?
- I charge £25 and hour as a standard rate and £15 per half hour. I am also willing to give free consultation lessons which would typically last half an hour.
If the lesson is to occur outside of zone 2, I charge the relevant travel costs from this zone. - Where do you teach?

My Articles
Utilising the voice in aid of practice
Utilising the voice in aid of practice, focusing on brass It is my opinion that we can rush into practice focusing too much on the instrument and not the music, therefore limiting the quality of the work and decreasing stamina in the process. To combat this, I recommend singing or miming through the music that one is about to play for a number...
