Personal Message
Hello, I'm Paul. I recently trained as a primary school teacher, and I'm looking to integrate one-to-one or small group tuition with class teaching.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I am trained to teach all subjects in Key Stages 1 and 2, and have particular experience with reading, writing and mathematics. My personal motivation lies in finding creative, active ways to teach these subjects.
I am also able to work with young adults, teaching English and Maths up to GCSE level.
With a background in Philosophy, I can also offer online tuition of GCSE Citizenship and will proof-read essays for you.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I completed my Postgraduate Certificate of Education in Primary Education at the University of Greenwich in December 2011. I completed a 120 hour course in teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) in September 2011. My first degree was in BSc in Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method at the London School of Economics. I have A Levels in Maths, Further Maths and English Literature and AS Levels in Psychology and Economics. I have 12 GCSEs including A*s in ICT and Mathematics, As in Science and English and some unusual choices such as Astronomy and Latin.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have taught in a variety of schools as a Supply Teacher, as well as in youth clubs as a volunteer. As part of my PGCE training I have planned and delivered lessons in all the Primary subjects, from PE and Phonics.

I began tutoring at an educational charity in North London in 2009, working with two boys as they prepared for their Key Stage 2 SATs. Two years on, and I am also coaching children who need to rebuild their confidence in a particular subject are or are just finding things difficult at their current level.

Throughout my experience, I have found that personalised lessons generated an unstoppable motivation to succeed, and my constantly high expectations of what pupils can achieve gives them confidence to overcome any obstacles.
How much do you charge?
£30/hour for face-to-face lessons; £11/hour for online tuition (where it is possible); £10/hour for proof-reading essays. For an initial consultation meeting I'll only charge £5 to cover transport costs.
I will also teach groups of siblings or friends in the same subject at a 20% discounted rate. So if you would like two children to be tutored in Maths I would charge only £20/hour for each child.
Where do you teach?
I live in Islington, near Barnsbury, within easy reach of Camden, Haringey and Hackney. I have also tutored in Blackheath, Tower Hamlets and Newham. I am willing to travel to pupil's homes in Zones 1 and 2 of London, so please contact me to see if I could reach you.
When are you available?
I am currently working in primary schools during term time, and I have availability at weekends. Please contact me to discuss when it will be convenient for you.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach children from 5 - 16 years in National Curriculum subjects. For example, I can teach early reading or the basics of counting in preparation for entering Key Stage 1. I am also offering tuition in some subjects up to GCSE level. At every level, however, I set high expectations and aim to challenge and motivate pupils to achieve their best.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
Yes.
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
If you are looking for a tutor for GCSE Citizenship and Religious Studies, we can discuss whether it would be convenient to have your lessons online via Skype. This would also include proof-reading essays.
A new feature that I'm excited to offer is online group tuition through video chat in a specially created Google+ Hangout.
Tell me about some of your current students.
My current students are making excellent progress in maths, or developing their knowledge of the power of reading. As an example, I have posted Pablo's illustration for the book that we are reading. He highlighted the monochrome and informal style of Quentin Blake, and chose a page of 'The Magic Finger' to illustrate in this style. In doing so he demonstrates his ability to understand the plot of longer books than he is used to reading at school.
Do you have a personal message for students?
Throughout my experience, I have found that personalised lessons generate an unstoppable motivation to succeed, and constantly high expectations of what my pupils can achieve gives them confidence to overcome challenging obstacles.
