About Paul
- What kind of experience do you have?
I am an enthusiastic and professional teacher who has been involved in secondary music education for over 30 years, most recently for 16 years as Director of Music at the Tiffin Girls' School. I am currently Director of Music at Holy Trinity Church Clapham and Director of Music at the Thames Christian College. I also work as an examiner for C.I.E examinations (for the Pre-U music qualification).
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes . In fact I have 2 current DBS checks in operation. One from my school and one from my church.
- Where and with whom did you train?
I studied at the University of Bristol and Goldsmith's College and later spent time working on compositions with eminent figures such as Sir Peter Maxwell Davies and Peter Dickinson.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I have Hugo who has just passed his grade 2 Piano with merit. I have just taken Ase through her Grade V theory (89%) and am working on Grade 7 piano with Oscar. I am also just finishing tutoring Lelia for preparation for Oxbridge entrance in music.

Hi. I am an enthusiastic and professional teacher who loves working on a one to one basis with people of all ages. I have many years of experience teaching both academic and practical music and work as a local musician.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I tutor in A level music. G.C.S.E. music, Pre-U music, Music Theory, General Musicianship and the Piano. I particularly love teaching beginners as well as more advanced students. I also prepare students for university or VIth form entrance.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a B.A. (hons) in Music, an M.Mus in composition, orchestration and analysis and a Ph.D in music all from the University of Bristol. I also have a P.G.C.E in music education.
- How much do you charge?
£35 per hour for all subjects.
- Where do you teach?
I teach at home and also at students' houses.
- When are you available?
I am available on Saturdays, particularly mornings and also most Sunday afternoons. I am also available weekday evenings subject to school commitments. I am free during the day on Mondays.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
Currently students range from 10 years old to 18.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
A.B.R.S.M exams (Piano and Theory), G.C.S.E. , A Level, Pre-U (C.I.E board). I take students through Grade V theory regularly.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I am kind, patient and want to bring out the best in you. I am told that I am clear about what is required but create a relaxed atmosphere in which students can thrive.
