Since obtaining my PhD, I have been doing educational research in mathematics for 18 years, 8 years at university level, and 10 years at school/college level. My day job is a Researcher at the Institute of Education, University of London, and also at the University of Sussex (please google my name to find out more). - What kind of experience do you have?
- I have taught mathematics at university level, and tutored in mathematics at secondary and university levels.
- How much do you charge?
- £25 per hour. Normally no charge for travel (I use my bike). Free consultation.

- At the student's home.
- When are you available?
- Normally available evenings. Weekday daytime can be possible.

- 11 to 16, KS3 and GCSE.

- Mathematics experienced in school can be a horribly fragmented experience, without much meaning or apparent purpose. Tests and exams reinforce this feeling. Whilst it is important to pass the tests and exams, mathematical understanding comes from considering the subject more broadly, thinking about connections between topics, historical origins, and uses and applications of mathematical ideas. Once you grasp these connections, it should be possible to be successful in school mathematics because you can see the subject as more meaningful.
