About Chris
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have taught a wide variety of people over the past few years, from beginners to advanced-level students, and at all ages. I adapt my lessons regularly for the needs of each student and many of my students have gone on to achieve Distinctions in their piano/theory exams and A*s at A-level. I am familiar with all the exams that students take and what each students needs to do to fulfil their potential if they wish to take these exams.
I have experience performing in numerous recitals at university, organising concerts and assisting in performance lectures, so I am very familiar with the procedures of preparing for a performance, whether for a grade exam or for the public. I recently won the chance to be part of piano masterclasses with world-renowned international pianists Joanna MacGregor and Pascal Nemirovski. For my final recital at King's College London, I received a First Class award.
I am a former choirmaster of the Imperial War Museum Choir, a singer in the Constanza Chorus (City of London), and choral and orchestral conductor of the King's College Chorus, so I am used to dealing with people of varying levels of musical experience and promoting their general musicianship, whatever their individual aims are.
I am also a composer and have composed for a number of choirs, orchestras and chamber ensembles, so would be willing to share my knowledge of composition for music theory exams and GCSE/A-Level composition portfolios.
I have also accompanied many of my students for the other instruments with which they have taken exams (e.g. cello, bassoon, etc.)
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes. Can be viewed upon request.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I also belong to London Piano Tutors - a central London piano tutoring agency, and I am part of the Royal College of Music's Teaching Service.

- When are you available?
Very flexible, available both weekdays and weekends, mornings and evenings. For some of my students, we stick to a set time every week. Others prefer to schedule the next piano lesson as and when they are available. I am also available during school holidays.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
Any ages and any levels, from complete beginner to advanced. Children and adults both welcome. My youngest student is 8 and my oldest student is in her late 50's.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
If you are the parent of a child who is beginning to take an interest in the piano, or who is studying for their GCSE/A-Level Music exams, or if you are a student yourself, I can help you realise your full potential, having myself progressed through the same system with some very excellent piano teachers. It is very important that anyone with musical talent (whether children or adults) progress properly with a teacher so that they can thoroughly explore the appropriate piano repertoire, properly understand the nature of classical music and overcome any bad habits which may occur. It can improve their self-esteem, musicality and give them something extra to put to their name! More importantly, I can help you progress with the piano in an enjoyable and constructive way, so you or your child will have a skill they can treasure forever.

Chris is a great tutor with a passion for music; by taking lessons with him for over a year I found that he is a patient teacher and able to adapt to the students needs. Also rather flexible with timing which is great for a busy parent.
I have been very lucky to have Chris as a piano tutor! As I am currently working towards my grade 8, Chris has transformed my playing by helping me to understand the difference between playing in the practise room and performing to an audience, and as a result my playing has become more alive. His experience as a composer mean he also brings creative ideas to every lesson, which helps enormously with interpreting different repertoire. He is also a great help for anyone who dreads the aural tests!!
Chris has been my music tutor for 2 years covering my AS and A2 music exams. He was always very professional, supportive, extremely reliable and could explain difficult topics with ease. Perhaps the best indicator of Chris' ability as a music tutor is that I was predicted a low grade for my A2 exam as I had missed much of the school year through illness. With Chris' help I achieved an A*. I would not have achieved this without Chris' help and guidance. He was absolutely great and is a really lovely person!
