I am a specialist recorder teacher, for all levels and all ages. I cater for individual needs and hope to offer encouraging, fun, and inspiring lessons!
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I'm a specialist recorder teacher, and teach all related theory and aural and musicianship subjects. My lessons include a wide range of musical styles, from medieval, renaissance and baroque to jazz, contemporary music and electronics!
Tell me about your qualifications.
B Mus (Royal Academy of Music),
postgraduate Certificate of Early Music - Guildhall School of Music & Drama
What kind of experience do you have?
I teach beginners at primary school level, intermediate pupils, and some very talented advanced students at the Royal College of Music junior department, Surrey University and London College of Music. I am a tutor on the biannual Woodhouse recorder week, for young advanced players. I am often asked to adjudicate at music festivals, and I regularly give concerts and workshops as a soloist and ensemble player.
I can provide references.
How much do you charge?
free consultation lesson
£35 per hour
£18 per half hour
Where do you teach?
I teach at home - in a well-equipped, large, airy music room with keyboard for accompaniment.
I live in Streatham Common, very near the station, trains from Victoria, Balham, Clapham Junction, London Bridge, etc. Also near the bus routes 118, 250, 50, 60, 255, 109 G1. Free parking.
When are you available?
flexible.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
All levels and ages. I recommend starting from around age 6, depending on co-ordination levels, and of course upwards (it is never too late!). I enjoy the process of learning an instrument right from the beginning. I teach all grades, and have experience of all the exam boards, but this is not the only focus for me - I am equally happy to take a pupil though the different levels of playing, without the need for grade exams. I also teach beyond the grade system, through diplomas, and onto degree level. I also adjudicate, so am used to preparing pupils for perfomance and festivals.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
Yes.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
ISM (Incorporated Society of Musicians)
Where and with whom did you train?
Royal Academy of Music (Peter Holtslag, Anneke Boeke)
Guidhall School of Music and Drama (Philip Pickett, Pamela Thorby)
and classes with Walter Van Hauwe, Kees Boeke.
