Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach the Flute.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have just been awarded a BMus (Hons) degree in Flute Performance with a 2:1, and have worked towards my Licentiate of the Trinity College London (LTCL) in Instrumental Teaching at Trinity College of Music, London. I took my Grade 8 Flute in 2005 and achieved a Distinction and my DipABRSM in Flute performance in 2006, also achieving a Distinction. I have 'A' levels in Biology, French and Music, and AS levels in Chemistry and General Studies.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching for nearly 9 years now. Previously, I have privately tutored 5 young people between primary and secondary school age, some of whom were complete musical beginners, in 1:1 lessons. They have since taken grade exams with me and have gone on to join the school music ensembles, and even more advanced wind bands and orchestras. I have also taught 3 adults, helping them to hone their skills or master basic skills in the instrument.
How much do you charge?
I charge £25 per hour, with half an hour at £12.50.
Where do you teach?
I am able to teach at my family home in Havant, which is 5 minutes walk from Havant railway station with direct trains from Portsmouth and Chichester, and excellent transport links from Hayling Island, Emsworth and Rolands Castle. It is also situated just off the A27, Emsworth/ Denvilles exit. I am willing to travel but would prefer to teach at my house.
When are you available?
I have a very flexible timetable, and consequently am free most afternoons and evenings.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach any people of any age group, from beginners to a more advanced level.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
Yes- Enhanced Disclosure.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I belong to the Petersfield Symphony Orchestra, Hampshire, for which I am their piccolo player. I travel down to rehearsals and play in their concerts.
Where and with whom did you train?
I have just graduated with a 2:1 from Trinity College of Music, London where I studied Flute under Julian Coward (Royal Philharmonic Orchestra) and Piccolo with Alan Baker (English National Opera Orchestra). I have previously been taught by Lynda Coffin. I have had master classes from William Bennett, Ian Clarke and Wissam Boustany.
Do you have a personal message for students?
I am an enthusiastic, fun teacher who tries to make lessons as enjoyable as possible. I am a friendly, approachable person who gets rewarded by watching a pupil progress, both musically and technically.
