- Hi. I'm Richard Mulhearn, musician and teacher. I hope my enthusiasm for performing is passed onto anyone that I have the pleasure to teach.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach saxophone, clarinet , flute and music theory. I prepare students for Associated Board exams where required and I also teach jazz, blues and rock/pop etc.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- Diploma in Jazz/Light Music Diploma abrsm (DipABRSM) Saxophone Grade 8 ABRSM Clarinet Grade 8 ABRSM Flute Grade 8 ABRSM Music Theory
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I've been teaching for 24 years both in schools and privately. I've been performing for nearly 30 years.
- How much do you charge?
- Lessons are £26 and last forty minutes.
- Where do you teach?
- I teach in my students' homes and I also hold lessons at my home if it is too far to travel. I'm willing to travel roughly 15 miles from my home. The area I cover includes Renfrewshire i.e. Paisley, Houston, Bridge of Weir, Kilmacolm, Johnstone and parts of Glasgow.
- When are you available?
- I'm available daytime and evenings during the week and daytime at the weekend. I can also teach throughout the school holidays.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I teach adults of any age and children from 10 years upwards.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- Grades 1-8 Associated Board and Diploma.
Trinity Guidhall Grades 1-8 and Diploma. - Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- Yes.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
- Musician's Union.
- Where and with whom did you train?
- I studied at Sandown College of Performing Arts.
Jamey Aebersold Summer School. - Tell me about some of your current students.
- My current students are of various ages (10- 87!). Some of them like to do exams and others simply enjoy playing for pleasure. I encourage them to join music groups and do informal concerts, which many of them do. There are those who prefer classical and those who like jazz, blues and popular material.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
- Don't be afraid if you're a beginner. I'm very approachable and treat everyone as an individual. Playing music is of course beneficial to children's development but also equally worthwhile for adults as an escape from stressful jobs and busy routines. I look forward to hearing from you, Richard.
