Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Classical Singing. I also tutor G.C.S.E and A-level music and music theory.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have recently completed my BMusHons in Classical singing at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. I was awarded a distinction in my Final Recital and also in my Teaching Skills module. I have A-levels (Grade A) in Music, English Literature and Biology.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching singing privately for two years, from beginners to more experienced students, both on an individual basis and to small groups. I have had a detailed grounding in Classical singing technique and lessons in Accent Breathing method. I continue to research good teaching practice and learn from teachers at the top of the profession in order to provide the best possible teaching for my students. I perform as a soloist in Classical concerts and operas, recent appearances including 'teenage girl' in ENO's production of Two Boys by Nico Muhly. I sing in the vocal quartet ffourtissimo who have recently appeared on Harry Hill's T.V Burp and are soon to appear on the Matt Lucas Awards Show. I also run Literary Music, a group providing historical music and entertainment and was recently featured as a soloist on Masterchef's Regency Banquet. I have also had experience of choral singing as a member of the Halle Youth choir.
How much do you charge?
I charge £30 an hour or £15 for a half hour lesson. I charge a small amount for travel depending on distance, cost and time.
A consultation lesson is £20 an hour.
Where do you teach?
London: I teach from home in Forest Hill and will also travel to you. I am based near Brockley, Sydenham, Lewisham and New Cross, but will also travel to Central and East London; Angel, Islington, Old Street, Mile End, Euston, Baker street, and also to North London.
When are you available?
I am available most weekday evenings and some times during the day. I am also available most weekends.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
Classical singing: I teach all ages and levels. Music Theory: I teach up to grade 5.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
I am currently in the process of renewing my CRB certificate.
Where and with whom did you train?
I studied at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama with Kate Patterson. My previous teachers include Margaret Humphrey-Clarke and Sally Wilks.
Do you have a personal message for students?
I am committed to teaching good vocal technique to allow my students to sing healthily and achieve their full potential. I encourage students to understand the way their body works when singing and be aware of their own vocal development. I aim to develop understanding of good technique alongside nurturing a pupils love of singing and natural ability.
