Personal Message
I welcome all levels and types of students into my teaching studio, and look forward to the variety of backgrounds and experiences that come through here.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach classical and jazz double bass with the French bow and develop the student's understanding of the instrument. All aspects covered, including how to hold the bass, tuning, left and right hand techniques, scales/exercises, pieces to work on, and theory/aural training. My lessons incorporate Alexander Technique, music theory, and musicianship. I also teach music theory separately for those preparing for exams.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I completed my Master of Music in Leadership at Guildhall on a full scholarship studying with Thomas Martin and earned my Bachelor of Music at Juilliard, also on full scholarship, studying with Timothy Cobb.

My Leadership degree as a Guildhall Artist polished my training in performance as well as music education. At Juilliard, I earned the distinctive Peter Mennin Prize for outstanding achievement and leadership as well as completed their D.E.L.T.A. Leadership Program.

I trained in the Alexander Technique for 5 years at Juilliard and Guildhall with teachers Jane Kosminsky, Lauren Schiff, and Selma Gokcen, and incorporate this school of thought into my private lessons.

Summer music festival training includes the Aspen Music Festival, Interlochen Arts Camp, and Brevard Music Center.
What kind of experience do you have?
I am passionate about my work off stage with communities and education. I regularly work in the London Symphony Orchestra Discovery program after having played with the orchestra as a String Scheme participant in 2009. I work with the Candide Discovery Room to involve young people in creative music making projects, the LSO St. Luke’s projects for both LSO Fusion and workshop participants with learning disabilities and various workshops in the Barbican Centre and London schools/universities. I have taught music at youth camps, coached community ensembles, and coached at local schools including for the Bromley Youth Music Trust and Stoke Newington School.

As a diverse musician, I play in orchestras, chamber groups, musicals, recording sessions, rock and jazz bands. Now playing with Southbank Sinfonia 2011, I also perform with the English National Ballet, Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon, British Philharmonic and Oxford Philomusica among others. I have recorded in the Dairy Studios for Nitin Sawhney, toured for Jeff Wayne’s musical War of the Worlds and regularly write and perform original music with my band Flux, which is influenced by Western and Indian classical, jazz, popular and urban music.
How much do you charge?

I have an up-to-date CRB disclosure certificate.

Lessons also available online via Video Skype.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of the Musician's Answering Service.
Tell me about some of your current students.
I currently teach a variety of students and age groups, from beginners who are learning how to hold the double bass, to advanced players who have been performing in bands and orchestras.
Do you have a personal message for students?
My aim is to keep the learning environment productive as well as fun. My teaching studio is comfortable with a large mirror that allows students to easily identify technique and posture concepts. A bass stool is provided but I ask my students to bring their own double bass so we can work on their individual setup and identify any challenges.
