About Samuel
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have a wide variety of performance experience -
I am BBC Folk Award winner and many time nominee Lucy Ward's bass guitarist.
Through Lucy I have performed on 2 UK tours, many festivals and more gigs.
I feature on her two currently released albums - 'Adelphi Has to Fly' and 'Single Flame', and will also feature on her upcoming third album.
Other recording credits - O'Hooley and Tidow, Mills and Chimneys.
I have performed in musical theatre productions for around 8 years, playing in many amateur dramatic productions. I also have some experience of performing in the West End.
During my undergraduate degree I was the bassist for award winning City of Cardiff Concert Band for 4 years, as well as 2 years with award winning Cardiff University Big Band.
Other performance experience includes several function bands, pop singers, soul bands and rock bands.
I currently am part of several projects in London including a Trip-Hop band, a funk function band and an Icelandic folk musician.

I have had several bass guitar tutors, including the bassist of the National Welsh Orchestra and professionals working at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, such as John Currie.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I teach a wide variety of students, from young children just starting their musical journey, to teenagers really getting a grip of the bass guitar, to older people.

I am a professional bass guitarist living and working in London. Learn to become the bass guitarist you want to be, as well as all of the essentials every bassists needs.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
Bass guitar - a wide variety of genres, from funk to pop to classical, plus a wide variety of techniques to master all of the genres - slap, pop, pick and much more!
This is learned in tandem with the necessary theory needed to understand playing a musical instrument. I can teach students to read TAB, written music or both.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
Masters degree in popular music performance (MMus), from the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance. Grade - Merit. 2013-2014.
Bachelor degree in music (BMus), from Cardiff University. Grade - 2:1. 2008-2011.
- How much do you charge?
£30 p/h at my house, £40 to travel.
- Where do you teach?
At my home in Dalston or at students' houses in London.
- When are you available?
I have a flexible schedule.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach from very beginners to advanced (grade 8 plus) and at any age (you are never to old to learn!)
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I would encourage students to take their grades, but am also happy should the student have no interest in this.
I am very happy to assist with any academic qualifications my students are undertaking, be it GCSEs, A Levels or degrees.

Music is my passion and this comes across in my teaching.
I aim to get you passionate about music and the bass guitar.
