- Cello & piano lessons with professional musician in North London.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach cello, piano, aural training & general musicianship.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- Graduate of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I am an active soloist, chamber musician & orchestral player with 13 years teaching experience with pupils of all ages and levels, from complete beginners to advanced music college students. My approach on both cello & piano is to develop general musicianship and a relaxed technique within a friendly environment. I am committed to ensuring that all of my students enjoy learning and develop a lifelong love of classical music, wherever their playing takes them.
- How much do you charge?
- £30 an hour, or £20 for half an hour.
- Where do you teach?
- I teach at my home in West Hampstead, in a large airy room with a well-maintained Yamaha U1 piano.
- When are you available?
- I am generally available on Saturday mornings, during the day during the week, and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- All ages and levels - it's never too late to learn! Generally I don't like to take children under the age of 7 for cello or 4 for piano, but can be flexible on this depending on the child. In recent years I have developed a specialty for teaching adult "returners", so anyone who used to play as a child and wants to start again will be in particularly good hands! I also specialise in teaching advanced cellists and can prepare students for scholarships or music college auditions.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- Anything that they wish to do, provided that they are ready for it. I have experience of teaching up to Grade 8 level on the piano, and up to advanced diploma/music college level on the cello.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- Yes :)
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
- MU

To a complete beginner this seems the most natural thing to do, and indeed many teachers allow beginners to produce a sound in this way. But it's really not ideal for the following reasons: You can end up with pain and tension in your forearm muscles...
