Interview
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Spanish to all ages and levels - for exams, leisure or business - and I teach English (lang and lit) to KS 3/4/5 and beyond.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a BA honours degree in Spanish and English. I am a fully qualified teacher (PGCE) with over a decade's experience teaching both young people and adults. I am also an experienced Examiner (AQA) in GCSE Spanish and A level English literature.
What kind of experience do you have?
I am bi-lingual in Spanish and have lived and worked in Spain and South America. I have helped people from many situations - students preparing for exams; business professionals learning Spanish to aid their work in Spain or South America; retired couples preparing to relocate to the costas.
My English expertise has also helped students requiring that crucial pass at GCSE; A level students at sea with essays; even business professionals needing help with their written communication - there is always room for improvement with our mother tongue.
How much do you charge?
My fees range from £25 - £35 per hour, depending on the level required. I charge extra for travel, depending on the distance.
Where do you teach?
I generally teach at home as I find it benefits the students to be in a different environment. Where students are unable to come to my house, I am happy to travel to the areas around Framlingham, Debenham, Woodbridge, Aldeburgh, Ipswich, Eye and Diss but will charge for petrol and time.
When are you available?
I am available during the day, evenings and weekends during term-time and the holidays.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach any age and any level. I have taught children as young as 4 and adults as mature as 76.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
Common Entrance; GCSE; AS level; A level; Degree level.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
Yes - I have an up to date police check as I work in schools.
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I am fully computer literate, have a microphone and skype facilities.
Tell me about some of your current students.
Currently I have an adult student who is learning Spanish to help an expanding business in Ecuador. With English tuition I teach a self-employed student who wants to learn how to write more effective letters and business proposals.
Recently I helped a man prepare a wedding speech in Spanish (even though he had never spoken a word in the language before!). He called after the wedding to let me know it had gone well and he was complimented by Spanish guests on his accent!
School students are currently perfecting coursework and building up to exam preparation.
Do you have a personal message for students?
I can help you achieve things you never thought possible - provided you have the willingness to learn from your weaknesses in order to build on your strengths.
If you think you can't, you won't - nothing is impossible with the right attitude and the right tutor. You'll be amazed at the difference one-to-one tuition can make.
Speaking the Lingo at GCSE
Speaking in a foreign language is perhaps one of the most daunting aspects of any examination. You feel vulnerable, exposed and out on a limb, especially if you're under-prepared. The key to success in the speaking test is to give it a go and forget about making mistakes. You'll get more...
