- Personal Message
- I have a real desire to pass on my love of music theory and want to make it an area of music that is enjoyable rather than just a compulsory step in the practical music process.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach Music Theory to pupils either wishing to sit an exam or just for pleasure.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I developed my love of music theory whilst studying towards my music GCSE and later my music A-Level. This inspired me to teach myself music theory and I entered myself for Grade 5, which I passed with distinction. I went on to pass Grade 7 with distinction and was awarded the Hedy-King Robinson prize, which recognizes high standards in the study of music theory. I later passed my grade 8 with merit and I also have completed a Masters in Music. As well as my private music theory tuition, I teach music and theory to pre-school children. I also like to compose music in my spare time.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I have been teaching music to pre-school children for seven years. I have been teaching music theory for three years.
- How much do you charge?
- I charge £18 for 30mins and £35 for an hour.
- Where do you teach?
- I teach from home and am prepared to travel short distances to pupils homes to teach.

- I am available to teach on weekdays up until 6pm during term-time and holidays.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I teach all ages from beginners to advanced.

- Do you have a personal message for students?
- Many music students see music theory as a chore and don't enjoy it because they are not introduced to it straightaway, and are usually faced with it when wanting to progress in their practical grades. I firmly believe that it is crucial to learn both theory and practical side by side as they each enhance the others understanding of music. I have a real desire to pass on my love of music theory and want to make it an area of music that is enjoyable and knowledgeable rather than just a compulsory step in the practical music process

The Joys of Music Theory
Most people give me a very strange look when I tell them that I actually like music theory and enjoyed sitting my exams! For me I have always enjoyed the theory more than the practical. Most students say to me that they find music theory hard and practical much easier. In my opinion, these students see music theory as a chore and don't enjoy it...
