About Daniel
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have just over 25 years experience as a professional saxophone / flute player and 5 years playing clarinet, with 10 years teaching experience.
I have performed, recorded and toured with a diverse range of traditional and contemporary artists including world tours with Bjork and Bryan Ferry. I am performing regularly in groups of various musical influences in and around London and pursue my own musical development by daily music study, instrument practice and composition.
I have co-written and produced 2 highly acclaimed albums plus various remixes all with major label releases.
I have taught Music Btec National Diploma, levels 2 and 3 ,have worked on community arts/music projects and give private instrument tuition. I therefore have a broad knowledge of teaching practices and requirements from the formal to the non formal sector. I encourage my students to practice regularly and can direct students to comprehensive practice resources appropriate to their skill level
Community teaching has given me experience of working with children and young adults of multiple ethnicities, diverse cultural backgrounds and specific learning difficulties.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
My CRB has recently expired am in the process of renewing.
- Where and with whom did you train?
Having started with school sax lessons from aged 11, within a year I was playing in a North West London Reggae band regularly performing live and recording.
From aged 15 to 17, I took 2 years of private jazz tuition from Stan Lord, a highly established saxophone performer and teacher. While helping to improve my technique and general music theory, he encouraged me to enjoy and emulate the music of the 'greats' such as John Coltrane,Charlie Parker and Sonny Rollins
I transcribed and learnt by heart many of their great melodies and solos and began joining jazz groups, expanding my repetoir to include popular standards of the mid to late 20th Century.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
