Interview

Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach both Trumpet/Cornet from beginner to advanced level as required, including grade exams, and doubling piccolo, C and D/Eb trumpets.

Tell me about your qualifications.
I have 4 A Levels (Music - A, Music Technology - A, English - B, Maths - C), and am currently finishing my final year studying trumpet at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

What kind of experience do you have?
I was a member of Bromley Youth Music Trust in Kent, where I played in various ensembles including Wind Bands and Symphony Orchestras and also played with the National Youth Orchestra. I freelance regularly in London as a classical and jazz musician, and perform with 2 successful brass quintets (Quintabile and Penny Brass) as well as a function band performing pop covers (Pandoras Jukebox). I have worked on education shcemes both with the Guildhall and with the London Symphony Orchestra, and have played with the Philharmonia Brass Quintet as well as sitting in orchestral rehearsals. I also play the natural trumpet performing baroque repertoire, and play trumpet for the Saracens rugby club.

How much do you charge?
I charge £25 per hour and £12.50 for a half hour lesson.

Consulation prices negotiable.

Extra charge of £5 for travel outside of Zone 3.

Where do you teach?
I am based in E14, though prefer to teach at students' homes for security and am happy to travel to anywhere in the inner Zones i.e. 1 and 2 or in the outer zones with extra charge depending on location.

When are you available?
I am happy to teach at weekends and during the week depending on availability.

Which ages and levels do you teach?
Beginner to advanced on classical trumpet and cornet, any age.

Do you have a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
No, though I believe strongly in the child's protection, and only offer to teach at their house where they can be overlooked.

Where and with whom did you train?
Bromley Youth Music Trust - Stephen Spencer, Martin Gibbs and Ray Allen
Guildhall School of Music and Drama - Paul Beniston, Paul Cosh, Anne McAneney, Alison Balsom and Steve Keavy

I have participated in Masterclasses with Andy Crowley, Peter Gane, Alison Balsom, Hakan Hardenberger and attended similar sessions by Allen Vizzutti, Kristian Steemstrup and Matthias Hofs.

Do you have a personal message for students?
Practice is the key to success but should be enjoyable, as enjoyment helps boost confidence and satisfaction.
