Interview

Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach the violin and viola on a one-to-one basis.

What kind of experience do you have?
I have had a lot of teaching experience, both privately and in schools. I teach for the London Symphony Orchestra's Instrument Learning Scheme which gives children from all backgrounds the opportunity of learning a musical instrument. My current students range from the age of five to adults and i'm comfortable teaching students of any age. I am equally capable teaching both violin and viola.

How much do you charge?
I charge £30 per hour, but i'm happy to do shorter lessons as well.

Where do you teach?
I teach at my flat (near Old St tube station in Central London) but I am willing to travel to students houses if they prefer.

When are you available?
I am usually available every day of the week. I arrange lessons weekly rather than have a set time each week. I like to be flexible as my timetable can vary, as can my students' timetables.

Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach students of all ages and abilities, from absolute beginners to Grade 8 and beyond.

Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
Yes

Where and with whom did you train?
I had a full scholarship place at Wells Cathedral School (a specialist music school in Somerset) for three years. I am currently at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London studying with Mark Knight.

Do you have a personal message for students?
It is never too late to take up an instrument. If you put the time in to practise and you have the right teacher then there is no reason to stop you becoming a good player.

Suzuki and Colourstrings methods of teaching

The importance of musical training during early childhood is an increasingly accepted reality. If a child is fortunate to have enough exposure to music in the right environment from a young age, it will be hugely beneficial for the child’s musical skills, and more importantly for their overall...

The Alexander Technique in Learning an Instrument

Playing music can be one of the most rewarding things, but can also be the most frustrating. I started playing the violin at the comparatively late age of fourteen. I had lessons with a local teacher near where I live and progressed quite quickly through the early stages. After I decided to...
