About Steven
- What kind of experience do you have?
I began guitar at the age of 5 and have never stopped since! I have been teaching guitar professionally for 8 years now and have gone from teaching a few pupils privately in my home to teaching 30+ pupils a week in two of London's top primary/senior schools (City of London Girls School and Wimbledon College) as well as giving public masterclasses. My pupils range from absolute beginners as young as 5 to adults pursuing a hobby.
Though the majority of my pupils study classical/fingerstyle guitar, I also have a few pupils learning acoustic and electric guitar.
I have a 100% students pass rate for music exams. Every student I have entered into an exam has received a pass or better, be it ABRSM, Trinity or Rockschool.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I do have a CRB disclosure certificate.
- Where and with whom did you train?
I attended Junior Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) school from 2003-2005, where I was tutored by Wendy Jackson.
I then attended Chethams School of Music from 2005-2007, where my tutor was renowned guitarist and teacher Gordon Crosskey.
I graduated with honours from the Royal Northern College of Music as an undergraduate in 2011, where I was taught by world famous guitarist Craig Ogden.
I received my Masters degree in performance from the Royal College of Music in 2013, where my tutor was the highly respected Gary Ryan.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM) and Registry of Guitar Tutors (RGT)
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I have over 30 pupils, both private and at the schools I teach. Last year (2013) I entered 13 of my pupils, ageing from 8 to mid 30's, into ABRSM and Trinity exams. All passed, most received merits and 3 received distinctions. I also teach a few groups, mostly two at a time.
