A fun and friendly approach to playing the piano.
Interview
Which subject(s) do you teach?
Classical piano
Tell me about your qualifications.
A graduate of the Birmingham Conservatoire (GBSM/ABSM); Dip.Mus (Sheffield University)
What kind of experience do you have?
Having held a number of teaching positions, most notabIy at King's School, Rochester, and the American School, St John's Wood, in London, I've since set up my own private piano teaching practice from my home in North West London, where I've taught students right across the spectrum, from 4 1/2-year-olds through to senior citizens! With over 25-years' teaching experience (I'm still, amazingly young), I've taught both complete beginners, pop stars, lawyers and BBC producers. But whatever your ability and age, my aim has always been the same: to approach the lessons in a fun and friendly way, to enable you, long-term, to be able to teach yourself how to play, to learn the skill that will give both you and those around you, pleasure for life.
How much do you charge?
As a professional, with a very busy practice, my fee reflects both my qualifications and my wealth of teaching experience to date.
Where do you teach?
From my home/studio in North West London. I do, however, have a small team of excellent teaching assistants who can travel on my behalf, currently teaching in South, South West and West London.
When are you available?
Tuesday-Thursday 9.00 am-8.30 pm, Saturday 10.00 am -5.00 pm
Which ages and levels do you teach?
Children 6 + and adults, complete beginners to advanced
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
All ABRSM Grades, and occasionally other examining boards if appropriate
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
Currently being processed
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
Full ISM member
Where and with whom did you train?
Professor Malcolm Wilson (former Head of Birmingham Conservatoire); Margaret Newman (Birmingham Conservatoire); David Ponsford (Harpsichord), Birmingham Conservatoire; Philip Fowke (privately), former Head of Keyboard, Trinity College of Music, London. Masterclasses with Joseph Weingarten (student of Bartok and Kodaly).
Tell me about some of your current students.
My current students range in age from 6 through to 46. They are highly intelligent, unusual in their own inimitable ways, and all a pleasure to teach.
