- Personal Message
- Whether you are achieving high results, hoping to raise your grades, or struggling with the subject, I have relevant experience.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I am a specialist in English studies. Most of my tutoring has been for A Level and GCSE. I'm familiar with a range of Exam Boards and have recently tutored both AQA and Edexcel curriculums. I can work with private candidates preparing coursework, and for exams, or with students enrolled at school, college and university.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I have a research qualification in English from the University of Kent, and M.A. in Modern Literature from the University of London. My undergraduate degree was in Anthropology/Psychology. I completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching in Lifelong Learning at Birkbeck College.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I've taught English in college and university. Much of my tutoring has been at GCSE and A Level and I am familiar with a range of curriculums.
I've worked with students at a range of schools seeking additional help with English. These students had very different reasons for working with a tutor. Some were achieving high results and wanting to consolidate their grades or develop projects for final assessment. Others have wanted to raise achievement or have an opportunity to build on classroom work.
I've taught in the English Departments at the University of Kent and at the University of Greenwich.
Currently I'm an Examiner for AS English with OCR. Previously, I was a Moderator for the International Baccalaureate Diploma in Literature and an Examiner for GCSE with AQA. - How much do you charge?
- £40 per hour for Lower Secondary and GCSE
£45 per hour for A Level
£50 per hour for degree/postgraduate studies. - Where do you teach?
- Usually in students' homes. I live in North West London and can travel a reasonable distance. I am willing to teach in my home, also.
- When are you available?
- I am available weekdays and evenings, from 4 - 7 pm.
Weekends are possible, by negotiation. - Which ages and levels do you teach?
- Much of my tutoring is for GCSE or A Level. Most of these students have been from 14 - 19 years.
I also work with lower secondary students and with undergraduate, and postgraduate, students. - Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- GCSE English Literature/Language
A Level English Literature/Language - Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- My most recent CRB disclosure was Feb 2010.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
- In the past year, I have been tutoring a GCSE student who is achieving A grades and wants to gain an A*. We worked on her understanding of why particular essays reached the very highest standard, and others fell below it. She needed to understand what she was doing right in order to be able to maintain the standard. The student was highly motivated and presented me with practice essays at each session. I concentrated on enabling her to make use of her understanding of texts gained from classroom lessons, developing that knowledge, and building analytical skills.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
- Whether you are achieving high results, hoping to raise your grade, or struggling with the subject, I have relevant experience.

Diary of a GCSE English Tutor
This diary records one tutoring job over six months: a tutor is invited into a home, liases with parents/carers, and works closely with a student. Families often feel that much depends on the outcome of the tutoring - and on results at school - and they are right! It is important that students discover their interests and develop their...

My Testimonials
|
I could not have asked for a better tutoring experience. I like to know my progress in any subject and Tracey understood this unlike any other teacher or tutor I had in the past. The in-depth comments I received were allowing me to progress and improve my English rather than causing a hindrance in my performance. I would like to thank Tracey for all her dedication and co-operation until the very last day, I know my accomplishments could not have been fulfilled without her. Thank you! - A Recent Tutoring Client |

In general the entire process increased my mastery of academic skills and by the end I was able to gain a sense of pride and accomplishment. My most difficult and worst subject turned into the most interesting and enjoyable. I found every essay a thoroughly enjoyable challenge and surprisingly awaited the upcoming lesson. These tutoring sessions gave me passion to write English, and now I find it difficult to sway away from writing an essay. - A Recent Tutoring Client |
