About Sam
- What kind of experience do you have?
Teaching: I have been teaching for the last 10 years and come from a family of music teachers. Recently I have been teaching both privately and within a school in NW1 and have just joined up to teach for a West London borough music service. Prior to this I have had many private students over the years, and have led specialist workshops to schoolchildren, classroom taught from KS2-5 and have also held sensory workshops within SEN schools.
Performing: As a performing musician I have performed all over the world, including Holland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, Austria, Switzerland and the USA. I have worked with the BBC Concert Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House. I have a huge passion for all types of music and am also a founding member of the London City Big Band and the function band, Pandoras Jukebox.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes I have CRB checks from 2009, 2012 and will shortly be receiving another.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?
My expertise is in Brass playing, specifically as a trombonist but I teach all of the instruments/subjects which are detailed above.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I studied for 5 years at the Royal Academy of Music and received tuition from many of the best musicians (Classical brass, Classical non-brass, jazz etc) whilst I was there. I graduated in July 2013 with a BMus(Hons) and with the Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music (LRAM) teaching qualification. In 2010, I graduated from the Student Associate Scheme (SAS).
- How much do you charge?
£30ph/£18ph-h unless stated otherwise. Whilst I'm willing to travel anywhere within a reasonable distance (within M25), this could incur an additional charge for travel times and cost. This is all negotiable upon enquiry.
- Where do you teach?
I prefer to come to you but if this is difficult then it may be possible to arrange tuition at my home in Denmark Hill if necessary. I am willing to travel anywhere within South London, including Denmark Hill, East Dulwich, North Dulwich, Tulse Hill, Loughborough Junction, Camberwell, Peckham Rye, West Dulwich, Herne Hill, Crystal Palace, Wimbledon, Croydon, South Croydon, East Croydon, Richmond, Twickenham, Mitcham, Merton, Clapham, Clapham North, Forest Hill, Lewisham, Southwark, Lambeth, Bromley, Dartford, Bermondsey, Brockley, Honor Oak, Catford, Norwood and Greenwich.
I am willing to travel to Central London, West London, North West London, North East London and East London.
- When are you available?
As a professional freelance musician, I do not have a week to week timetable but this usually means I am much more free than I would be if I had a strict day job! Each lesson is agreed on a weekly basis at your convenience.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all levels from the age of 5 upwards.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I enjoy tailoring my teaching to fit the ambitions of each student and their desired goals, whilst always ensuring every student gains a solid playing foundation and enjoyment of their instrument. I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy making music and I feel that I have the experience and quality to get you to where you want to be.
