Interview
Which subject(s) do you teach?
Piano (Beginners to Advanced). Music Theory (Grade 1-5).
Tell me about your qualifications.
I did my BMus degree at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama (2004-2008), and studied on the MA programme at the Royal Academy of Music (2008-2010).
What kind of experience do you have?
I have substiantial experience of teaching the piano - I have received training on teaching the piano at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and the Royal Academy of Music, the former at which I did music workshops with children of different ages. I also have vast experience of observing teaching in many different settings. At present, I teach privately, and my students are in the age range of 4-45 years. I teach all of my students music theory as well, as it enhances the understanding and learning of music.
How much do you charge?
Piano: £35 per hour. Music Theory: £30 per hour.
I am available to travel outside central London to teach a student. I charge £5 for travel expenses for this, in addition to the hourly teaching rate (Piano: 35 + 5 = £40, Music Theory: 30 + 5 = £35)
Where do you teach?
At the student's house.
When are you available?
Please contact me to arrange a time!
Which ages and levels do you teach?
All levels and ages.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I am currently preparing several of my students for the graded exams of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) and Trinity/Guildhall, and I will happily do the same for any new students who wish to enter for these.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
Yes, I have an up-to-date CRB disclosure certificate. I am also happy to provide references, and I welcome parents to sit in on lessons.

Where and with whom did you train?
Caroline Palmer and Paul Roberts (Guildhall School of Music and Drama).
Tatiana Sarkissova (Royal Academy of Music).
Tell me about some of your current students.
My students cover a wide range of levels of playing, and I am therefore very familiar with how to teach all levels and abilities. Based on my considerable experience, I am also confident in how to instruct piano players of different ages. Additionally, I have experience in teaching dyslexic/dyspraxic students.
Do you have a personal message for students?
Making music and playing the piano can be a deeply fulfilling experience! To play music for your own enjoyment is always the best starting point, and it is important that you come into learning the piano with realistic expectations; by immersing yourself in the music and practising consistently, it is possible to make good progress and develop your playing! At the same time, one must remember that patience is absolutely necessary - results don't always come immediately. I require my students to set aside time for practice before each lesson. Every student is unique - we will tailor the lessons to suit your goals and needs, so that you will get the most out of learning the piano!
Learning The Piano
The ability to play an instrument is a wonderful thing - we can enjoy making music for our own pleasure as well as to share music with other people! For me as a teacher, it is rewarding to share my knowledge with a student, especially one who is passionate about learning and making music, at...
