Mr Liviu Popescu has studied with world-class international soloists at the Royal College of Music (London) and at the Birmingham Conservatoire, winning several instrumental prizes in both venues. Mr Popescu divides his versatile musical career between private teaching at the highest level, chamber music, giving recitals and freelancing with some of the biggest orchestras in the UK and abroad. Mr Popescu has played with several internationally renowned orchestras such as London Philharmonic, The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, The City of Birmingham Symphony and has led the viola section of the RTE Concert Orchestra (Dublin) for over six months in 2008.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
Violin and Viola, grades 1-8 and beyond.
Tell me about your qualifications.
Bachelor of Music with honours and Postgraduate Diploma in Performance at the Royal College of Music (London).
What kind of experience do you have?
Over 2 years teaching for the Birmingham Music Service and over 3 years of Professional Private Teaching. My real experience though comes from being a professional player with a vast experience of the solo, chamber music and orchestral repertoire.
How much do you charge?
Usually £12.50 per half-hour and £20.00 per hour for amateurs and beginners, but in general I am flexible with pricing and will accommodate committed and talented players on a tight budget. I will also consider online lessons over Skype if travelling is a problem.
Where do you teach?
I prefer to teach at home but I am willing to travel throughout the Midlands and beyond if required.
When are you available?
Lessons can be arranged throughout the week and usually can accommodate at short notice provided the student can also be flexible on times.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I will teach players of all ages, at any level and I can assure immediate progress form the very first lesson.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I am willing to prepare students up to and including post-grade 8 professional level in Solo performance, Chamber Music and Orchestral Repertoire.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
I am C.R.B. registered, having worked with young children and adults at the Birmingham Music Service for over two years.
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
We can, at short notice if required, arrange a lesson over Skype - I have held various lessons successfully over Skype and I find it a productive option when travelling to lessons is physically impossible.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
Musician's Union, have played with the CBSO, Liverpool Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, national Symphony Orchestra and I have led the viola section of the RTE Concert Orchestra (Dublin) in 2007-2008.
Where and with whom did you train?
I studied at the Royal College of Music and the Birmingham Conservatoire with international virtuosi Grigory Zhislin and Rivka Golani.
Tell me about some of your current students.
Presently (2011) I run a class of 10 very talented students.
Do you have a personal message for students?
Practice, practice and more practice! :-)
