Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Violin technique and musicianship to school aged pupils from grade 5 ABRSM, and to ADULT BEGINNERS & RESTARTERS to advanced level for performance.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have over 25 years experience as a violin teacher.
What kind of experience do you have?
Over 25 years teaching at leading Public Schools including Oakham in Rutland, The Leys School in Cambridge and St. Faith's Preparatory School, Cambridge. Former coach to the Cambridge County Youth Orchestra. Chamber music coach on various courses. Experienced performer who has been televised playing in Germany and the UK. Former musical director of the Galliard Chamber Orchestra. Over 20 years as a member of the Hertford String Quartet.
How much do you charge?
I charge £35.00 per hour or pro rata.
Where do you teach?
At my home the "Rottingdean Music Studio", 11 West Street, Rottingdean. The coastal buses from Brighton/Eastbourne stop outside or opposite the teaching studio.
When are you available?
I am flexible regarding teaching hours: daytime or early evening until latest 20.00 hours. The actual time has to avoid any lessons scheduled by the piano teacher Margaret Copestake.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
ADULTS are very welcome as BEGINNERS/RE-STARTERS or of an ADVANCED level. All will receive sympathetic teaching. For school age a minimum standard of Grade 5 ABSRM is required.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
Associated Board examinations where considered necessary and also up to degree level. I am more interested in providing pupils with a secure technique and musicianship with a wide range of repertoire than the treadmill of exams.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
CRB Certificate but not updated recently. Current Annual Declaration accepted by the Incorporated Society of Musicians who require strict professional conduct and an annual undertaking that you have no Criminal Record.

Do you belong to any professional organisations?
European String Teachers Association (former Chair of Cambridge Branch). Former committee member of the Cambridge Centre of the Incorporated Society of Musicians and was also on their Brighton and Hove ISM Committee until 2010.
Where and with whom did you train?
Royal Academy of Music, London and privately with Professor Edward Spinoza and Howard Davis.
Tell me about some of your current students.
Various violin pupils have gone on to study music at University or Specialist Music Schools. Current pupils include adult beginners to advanced level.
