- Personal Message
- This teaching year is going really well: I have completed the first part of my teacher training, and have taken on about 15 new students. I still have places for more students so please get in touch.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- Classical singing is my primary subject, and I also teach other types of singing. I also offer piano lessons and oboe lessons.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I completed the ABRSM Introduction to Instrumental and Vocal Teaching course in April 2012.
I currently hold two Grade 8 certificates, Grade 6 in Music Theory, and an A and A-Level music and am studying Advanced level Opera, as well as following ABRSM's teacher development programme. - What kind of experience do you have?
- With private tuition I have 18 months experience, and I have worked with children for 8 years. My musical experience is wide and varied, after learning to read music aged 4, when most of my friends were learning to read! I have played principal oboe in the City of Coventry Youth Symphony Orchestra, and with a variety of wind bands and chamber orchestras. I currently sing Soprano with Chester Cathedral Nave Choir and The Rivelin Singers.
- How much do you charge?
- My basic rate is £20 per hour, for any subject, any age, for lessons at my home.
- Where do you teach?
- I teach at my home in Chester, just outside the city centre, which is easily accessible for most towns across Cheshire, including Liverpool, Crewe, Macclesfield, Nantwich.
- When are you available?
- I teach on weekday evenings and Saturdays. In the holidays I offer the option of continuing as normal with lessons, or attending group and ensemble lessons which are greatly beneficial for students.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- For music I teach beginners or all ages, I have a range of ages including adults currently learning with me.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- I currently have students working towards exams with ABRSM and Trinity Guildhall . I have recently entered a number of students for music exams and they have all achieved highly, with several acheiving Distinction or Merit marks.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- I have enhanced disclosure for working with children and these are available on request. I am also first aid trained for the safety of your children and hold the NSPCC Keeping Children Safe award. I take the safety of children very seriously and through my voluntary work with Girl Guiding UK I am constantly kept up to date with laws and regulations.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
- At the moment I have a range of students, with a few beginner piano players ages 6 - 10, some intermediate players, a few oboe students and theory students. I have recently had an influx of new singers who have always wanted to improve their skills at singing and after just a few lessons have found great improvements.

Bad Habits in Choral Singing
As my studies and teaching in singing have progressed I have been made aware of particular problems with singers who sing in a choral setting (particularly within Cathedral settings) often experience and was of combatting these particular problems. What I would like to do here is identify a couple of the issues that people often face, to let...
First Steps in Music Theory by Eric Taylor
I recommend First Steps in Music Theory by Eric Taylor. This pocket sized book, produced by ABRSM publishing is a brilliant resource, for students and tutors alike. The Grades are clearly differentiated, as are the separate sections which the students are required to understand. Whilst for very beginners the long passages of writing might be a...
My Testimonials
|
"your teaching method is effective as there is always a laid back atmosphere and no pressure is put on her. She can learn at her own pace and she really likes the way you alternate the weeks. She likes the way you understand that it is a hobby and school work comes first so there is no pressure to practise for the following week" - Georgia - aged 16, casual Piano student. |

"I am currently studying for a Masters level course and the requirement was to write to 10,000 word report. I felt at ease and looked forward to our sessions, and learned a great deal about grammatical structures which I have taken away with me and feel more comfortable thinking about using different and more relevant words when writing. With the help from Wendy I completed and passed my report! Wendy is a fab teacher and would definitely recommend her." - Sam - MA student |
