Interview
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach German and French.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I'm a native German speaker with an MA in English, French and Russian from Potsdam University in Germany. Originally I wanted to become a school teacher, which meant that for one year I studied on a teaching course, including psychology, didactics etc. After my studies I worked in publishing and marketing and finished a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing. My son was born in 2006 and I have since been self-employed as a German & French tutor. I also do translations.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching since 1996. While at university I worked for several tutoring agencies in Berlin, teaching French and English. Even when I worked in Marketing, I always had a few pupils for German. In 2006 I made tutoring German and French my "main job". I have familiarized myself with the GCSE, AS & A-level syllabus. I also teach adults (I taught German at Solihull College, Flybe, KPMG etc.) who want to learn German for business or leisure purposes.
How much do you charge?
I charge £25 per hour and work from home. Group rate: £25/h plus £5 per additional pupil. Business contracts: £39 per hour incl. travel to your offices.
Where do you teach?
I only teach at home (Knowle, just off M42 Junction 5). Nearest train stations are Dorridge or Solihull. Nearest bus stop is 15m (S3), at Copt Heath Golf Club.
When are you available?
I work Monday - Thursday (all day, incl. evenings) and Sunday mornings.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
German: all levels, any age
French: up to A-level
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
Yes.
Tell me about some of your current students.
My current students range from GCSE pupils to school teachers and managing directors.
Do you have a personal message for students?
I try to make lessons fun and plan them according to each pupil's requirements.
