Personal Message
I have a passion for Maths which is transmitted to students by showing the relevance of Maths to their environment, while ensuring that the whole syllabus is comprehensively covered.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
Mathematics from key stage 2 right up to A-level
Tell me about your qualifications.
Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) - This is my teacher's degree which must be passed to enter the teaching profession Higher Education - BSc Economics with Accounting 2:1 from Loughborough University (a top 10 ranked University) FurtherEducation - A-Level Further Maths (Grade B) and B A-level Maths (Grade B) (I also have two other A-levels in non-Maths related subjects at grade A to C) - My A-levels were studied at St. Francis Xavier College in Clapham South which is a premier inner London College School Qualifications - 11 GCSEs at grade A* to C, including a grade A in Maths
What kind of experience do you have?
I have tutored Mathematics privately since I graduated from Loughborough University in 2008. The majority of my clients from primary level right up to A-level have surpassed the predicted grades of their teachers under my stewardship. In addition to that, I taught in a Saturday school from August 2008 up until April 2012 , working with 7 to 16-year-olds of varying abilities. The first group of year 11s that I worked with at this school succeeded in gaining places at Russell Group Universities, and one of them is studying Maths. I am presently a teacher of Mathematics at a school in Tower Hamlets, where I have contributed considerably to high value added scores achieved by the Mathematics department, where 75% of last year's year 11 achieved a grade C at GCSE level. I consistently replicate this with my private clients.
How much do you charge?
The first lesson is free to all students. I also offer 25% off if I am tutoring two students at once, and 33% off if I'm working with three students. Furthermore, there is a discount of 10% if a student pays for 10 lessons in advance. With regards to transport, there is no charge if the student lives less than a mile from my home. However, if the student lives more than a mile away, there is a petrol fee of £0.25 per mile.
Where do you teach?
The majority of my clients live in areas such as Catford, Crystal Palace and South Norwood, although I do have clients in other South London boroughs. However, some of my clients do undertake their tuition at my home to take advantage of the reduced fees.
When are you available?
Monday to Friday: After 5pm Saturday: 1pm - 8pm Sunday: 10am - 3pm
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach students from 10 yrs and over. The abilities that I teach range from young children preparing for their key stage two SATs right up to A-Level students. In addition, I also have adults on my books who simply wish to brush up on their Maths.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I prepare students for GCSEs, A-levels, key skills qualifications, the 11 plus and functional skills examinations.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I belong to the National Union of Teachers (NUT), Association of Chartered Accountants and subscribe to the Association of Teachers of Mathematics
Where and with whom did you train?
I undertook my Professional Graduate Certificate in Education with Greenwich University.
Tell me about some of your current students.
Eljay - I began working with Eljay at the beginning of the last academic year. Prior to seeking my assistance, Eljay had a fear of Maths. I took half a year to overcome this but Eljay's confidence and attainment soared in the second half of the academic year, so much so that he has been moved up a set and will begin year 9 in September 2014 in a higher ability group. At the end of year 8, he won an award in assembly for being the most improved Mathematician across the year group.

Tyrese - A very able boy who struggled with motivation. This has changed during 2014 as my tutorials have been delivered to him in a style which he finds more relevant. In the last 6 months, Tyrese has moved from a B to a C and is projected to achieve a grade A in his GCSE Maths exam in year 11. The biggest difference that I have made with Tyrese is enabling him to see the relevance of the subject and why achieving the top grades is desirable and essential for his future success.
Jaeden - Jaeden had the ability to learn material on the day that it was taught but struggled with retention. I got around this by bombarding him with homework and teaching him strategies for remembering what he has learnt. I also took care in lessons to set problems which require him to draw links between different topics. This has meant that Jaeden was revising several topics at a time without realising. Jaeden is presently working at a grade B, but such was his progress at the end of year 10 that I am confident that another year with me will see him progress into an A* student.
Do you have a personal message for students?
Have an open mind when studying Maths and take advantage of all the learning resources at your disposal, because there are lots of them. A lot of emphasis is placed on working hard, but working smartly is more effective. This way Maths doesn't have to be as hard as some people make it out to be. I'm convinced that the majority of you will succeed if you are given the correct guidance and follow it. My job is to provide you with that guidance, and I've been told that I do it pretty well.
