- Personal Message
- I believe that a good teacher can be life-changing. I love my subjects and find the process of awakening the same passion, understanding and enthusiasm in my students very rewarding.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- My main subjects are Drama, English Literature, Audition Technique and Theatre which I teach from Key Stage 1 through to University Level. I also offer practical, tailored advice on how to acquire an agent as I have worked as an Agent's PA for nearly ten years. Other subjects include Science, P.E., History, Geography and Art at GCSE level.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I am a trained Actress with a BA Honours in Acting from LAMDA and have been working as an industry professional for 6 years. I also have a Joint Honours Degree (2:1) in English Literature and Drama from The University of Leeds. I studied English Literature, History and Art at A Level (AAB). When I am not acting, I work for The Markham Agency and PHPM on The Strand, so have a real insight into all aspects of the acting profession, which is particularly helpful when tutoring for audition speeches or drama school applications.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I supply teach regularly from ages 3-18 alongside my tutoring work. I have successfully coached three hopefuls into top London Drama Schools, am a Theatre Director and Workshop Leader. I currently play Headmistress Miss MacCauley in CBBC series Young Dracula and will be filming the fourth series from mid April 2012 to September, so I have a working knowledge of the business. When I am not acting, I work for The Markham Agency and PHPM on The Strand, so have a real insight into all aspects of the acting profession, which is particularly helpful when tutoring for audition speeches or drama school applications.
- How much do you charge?
- I am very happy to discuss discounts for group sessions and negotiate a price that suits all. I do charge for travel.
- Where do you teach?
- I am very flexible; happy to teach at my home, a student's home or public location if preferred - whatever is easiest! I am located in South London, so easily accessible areas are Stockwell, Clapham, Pimlico, Victoria, Brixton, Tooting and Streatham. I have an alternative base in Barnes and am happy to work in Putney, Wimbledon and Richmond.
- When are you available?
- I teach Monday to Saturday in the daytime and evenings. I am happy to teach during school holidays.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I teach all ages and stages!
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- A Levels, GCSE, Key Stages 1-3 depending on subjects required. Drama School Entry, Audition Technique.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- I have an up to date CRB.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
- I am a member of Equity, Spotlight and Casting Call Pro.
- Where and with whom did you train?
- LAMDA BA Acting (2007-9) University of Leeds BA Joint Honours in English Literature and Theatre (2002-5) Agent's PA to John Markham of The Markham Agency and Philippa Howell of PHPM (for ten years collectively)
- Tell me about some of your current students.
- I have recently returned to tutoring following a year off, so I am starting afresh. One of my previous pupils, who loathed Shakespeare when we met, is about to play Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing in her upcoming Drama School production!
- Do you have a personal message for students?
- Everyone is different and I think that is something to be celebrated. As a tutor, my starting point is always my pupil: I want to work out the most interesting, effective and fun method of teaching that is unique to each student. The tutor/pupil relationship should be symbiotic - I am not here to lecture you or bore you to tears! I want to bring subjects to life and offer a fresh perspective to what you may get at school. Drama, English and History are subjetcs to be prodded and challenged and questioned, not merely accepted. I want to find out what YOU think and help you express your opinions confidently and creatively. It is all about you!
