- Sometimes we all just need that little bit of extra help to enable us to reach our full potential. Perhaps we’ve had a bad run of teachers, or the pressure of exams is feeling a little overwhelming, or maybe we just want a different and fresh approach to a subject that we find challenging.
I often find that if we're struggling with our studies, the underlying problem is a lack of confidence. It is always my aim to build confidence in my students, to give them the tools to learn independently and then to push them to reach their potential when I feel they are ready. - Which subject(s) do you teach?
- The majority of students who come to me either come for Economics, History or Maths (Maths I teach only up to GCSE) but I also teach Politics, English and Drama. I can provide help with study skills, essay writing and general revision techniques to help you plan your study time.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I have a 2.1 in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University and I graduated in 2008. I also have straight As in History, English, Maths and Theatre Studies A-levles.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I have been teaching sporadically since I started university in 2005 but have been making it more of my profession since 2009 and I love it! I also have experience in youth and playwork and greatly enjoy interacting with young people and coming up with new ideas as to how to make learning fun and accessible.
I also have experience in teaching mature students who are in need of a bit of help with getting back into good study habits and learning essay writing techniques. - How much do you charge?
- My prices range from £22-25 an hour but I can give 10% discounts to blocks of 5 lessons paid for in advance. I am always happy to negotiate discounts for group lessons and for tuition over the internet.
- Where do you teach?
- I teach in both Bristol and Bath. In Bristol I teach from my flat on Sussex Place in Montpelier although I can be persuaded to travel to student's houses if they are within cycling distance. When in Bath, I teach from a house in Camden, off the London Road but my sessions tend to be limited to certain days. Please contact me for more information.
- When are you available?
- I am available in the daytime and evenings during the week and at weekends.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- from ages 5-18 or key stage 1 - A level and then University level for essay writing skills.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- A-levels and GCSEs.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- Yes. My current CRB was obtained in May 2010.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
- I use Skype to tutor online as well as Mikogo for white board/ demonstration purposes.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
- Here's what some of my current students have said about me recently...
'I've learned more in the last two hours than I have all year!' - Barney, A-level Economics and Politics student and prospective Oxford University undergraduate.
'Chloe has been a great help so far with Martha and has used fun and different ways to make maths exciting for her. She enjoys her lessons and her attitude towards maths, and her feelings about herself and maths have changed after just three lessons.'
- Parent of Martha, aged 9, Maths student, June 2010
'Chloe has been great in helping me to understand how to structure an essay, making it RELEVANT TO THE QUESTION, rather than a simple narrative. It's also been good to get ideas from someone outside the A level history course, who doesn't have any bias/preconceived ideas. Also I've been taught to form opinions of what happened, thinking about the consequences of peoples actions/ what the effects were, instead of regurgitating information from textbooks and teachers, and forming ambiguous opinions. All in all her help has been invaluable, and I hope the grades keep climbing.' David aged 17, History AS-level student
