Interview
Which subject(s) do you teach?
The main subjects I tutor are English, History and Politics. My specialism is in history and in September this year I will be moving to Singapore to teach history at a sixth form college. I specialise in developing the skills necessary to write effectively in exams, practising a structured approach to writing essays and building students' confidence in their own knowledge and understanding of their subject.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a BA (Hons) in History from the London School of Economics & Political Science, ranked in 2011 as the best History department in the UK according to the Complete Universities Guide.
During my sixth form education, I received awards in English Literature and History for outstanding achievement and a school foundation award for outstanding contribution to the reputation of the school.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have been tutoring students for over 2 years and have also been employed at Final Tuition Centre in Enfield as an English teacher in that time. I have worked with pupils of all ages which has given me a very open minded approach to the different needs of students, such as when a pupil has special educational needs like dyslexia.
I can provide a bespoke program of tuition that addresses the core needs of the student. I have significant knowledge of the syllabuses for history, English and government & politics and have experience with the main exam boards.
How much do you charge?
My standard rate is £18 an hour but usually charge £20 an hour for tutoring university students.
Where do you teach?
I am based in Kennington in South London but can travel across and beyond London depending on the needs of the pupil. I can either teach at the students' home or in a quiet and comfy public space like a cafe.
When are you available?
I am available on a flexible basis but usually tutor in regular slots after school on weekday afternoons or evenings. I am also available during half-term breaks and school holidays.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach English and History at Primary, KS3, GCSE and A Level. I also teach Government & Politics at A Level. At university level, I can also provide support for history undergraduates for essay and dissertation writing.
Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
I have a valid CRB check dated July 2011, a copy of which can be provided upon request.
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I use Skype and Microsoft messenger and can also receive scanned work to provide feedback verbally or via email. Students can also send me their work via email which I can review and attach comment or suggestions.
