Interview

Which subject(s) do you teach?
A range of subjects including maths, physics, piano, music theory, composition. I teach both Jazz piano and classical piano.

Tell me about your qualifications.
I spent four years as a scholarship student at the Purcell School of Music where my main areas of focus were classical piano and composition. After that I went to Cambridge University to study Mathematics at undergraduate level, then to Imperial College London to study Advanced Computing at MSc level, for which I was awarded a Distinction. Currently I'm studying for my PhD in computer science at Imperial College London. I'm also continuing my part-time career as a professional Jazz pianist.

What kind of experience do you have?
I have experience in all of the subjects mentioned above. I have taught mathematics at GCSE, A-level, as well as degree level standards, with excellent student satisfaction. I'm familiar with materials in many UK undergraduate courses in the areas of mathematics and computer science.

Most of my students have got in touch with me through this website.

How much do you charge?
Lessons are between £25 and £35 depending on subject and level. Please consult my subjects and prices list. Group discounts can be negotiated, e.g. I can teach 2 maths pupils in one sitting at a price not much higher than 1 pupil.

If the student requires me to travel a long distance, there may be extra costs of travel expenses and/or journey time, which are to be covered by the student.

Where do you teach?
Venues can be negotiated. For music lessons for example it is sometimes more convenient for me to go to students' homes, unless their homes are remote and not easily reachable by public transport, in which case I will ask of you to come to my home for the lessons.

When are you available?
My schedules are not very regular but quite flexible. Maybe it's easier for me to discuss times personally with pupils.

Which ages and levels do you teach?
I can teach maths and classical piano at high levels: maths and computer science at all levels up to and including undergraduate degree level; and classical piano up to and including DipABRSM diploma level. At undergraduate degree level however, it does depend in which area of maths and computer science the pupil is seeking tuition.

Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
I have a basic as well as an enhanced CRB certificate.

Where and with whom did you train?
My classical piano teacher at Purcell School of music was William Fong who teaches at the Royal Academy of music. My composition teacher at the time was Dr. Jonathan Cole, who is a professor of composition at Royal College of Music.

Most recently I have been studying Jazz piano with Barry Green, who teaches at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and Royal Academy of Music.

Do you have a personal message for students?
Students who are serious about the subjects they are studying are very welcome.
