- My name is Dmitry, and I'm a qualified teacher of Russian and English. I offer private Russian and English language tuition at all levels, for both children and adults.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- Russian
English for Russians - Tell me about your qualifications.
- I got my first degree (in English language and in language teaching) from Tomsk State University in Russia and I also have a master's in linguistics from Oxford.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- Before moving to England, I spent two and a half years teaching English at university level. In London, I've been teaching both Russian and English for almost 4 years now.
- How much do you charge?
- My rates start at £30 per hour. I charge an extra £5 per lesson if I travel to the student's premises. Flexible discounts are available for intensive courses and advanced bookings.
- Where do you teach?
- I teach at home, at students' premises (mostly central and north-west London), and at public places such as The Royal Festival Hall and The British Library.
- When are you available?
- I am really flexible and teach in the mornings, afternoons, and evenings. I am also available at weekends and often during holiday periods.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I teach all ages and all levels.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- GCSE and A Level Russian. I also help university students (essays, coursework, exam preparation etc.)
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- No.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
- My students range from beginners to very advanced learners, from university students to business professionals in the City. I have taught, among others, the finance director of a multinational corporation in Mayfair, a TV producer working for Channel One in Moscow, and Nick Clegg's Deputy Chief of Staff. I have also successfully prepared a number of school and university students for various exams.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
- My teaching style is a continuum: from a very formal structural approach to a very relaxed communicative style. Usually, it's a mixture of styles - I believe there's no single most effective teaching method. Of course, I always try to tailor all my lessons to the student's needs. One of the most important things for me is thorough organisation of each individual lesson - lesson plans are absolutely essential. It's also important to eliminate any element of boredom, which I achieve through a relatively fast tempo and a constant change of language activities. Finally, I'm very patient and friendly as a tutor.
