- I am a professional musician based in London. I teach the bassoon, flute, music theory and chamber music.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- I teach the bassoon - including the mini bassoon and tenoroon, the flute, music theory as well as offering coaching for wind chamber ensembles.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I am currently in my final year of study for a BMus degree in performance at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. I have ABRSM grade 8 bassoon and flute both with distinction and achieved an A in A Level music.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I have taught the bassoon for Ealing Junior Music Service and have taught the flute and bassoon for Connect Clinics, a collaborative project run by the Barbican Centre and Guildhall providing instrumental lessons and workshops for young children. I have 3 years experience of working on creative music projects in schools and pre schools around London as a workshop leader and assistant. More recently I have taught and assisted in music projects for elderly people at Gateway Housing Association and for disabled children at Phoenix School.
I currently play in the Guildhall School Symphony Orchestra, Guildhall Sinfonietta, the Dolce Wind Quintet and the Lola Wind Trio. As a musician I have performed in many prestigious venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Barbican Hall, Symphony Hall Birmingham and Banqueting House, Whitehall. - How much do you charge?
- I charge £28 an hour for bassoon, flute and chamber music lessons and £25 an hour for music theory lessons. I do offer 30 and 45 minute lessons at a reduced price as well as offering a reduced price for students wishing to learn an instrument as a pair - I do not teach groups bigger than two. Lesson prices may be slightly higher than stated the further out from central London I have to travel.
- Where do you teach?
- I teach at my pupils houses. I am based in central London, Islington, Hackney, Camden, Tower Hamlets but am happy to travel to zone 3, however, I will charge a slightly higher rate to cover my transport costs.
- When are you available?
- I am available to teach most afternoons/evenings as well as weekends, my timetable is flexible so I will be able to teach at a time convenient to you.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I teach all ages, for the bassoon and flute from complete novice up to grade 8 and beyond and for music theory up to grade 5 (which is a requirement for students to proceed to grade 6+ on their instrument).
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- ABRSM and Trinity Guildhall exams. I am also more than happy to help prepare students for youth orchestra and music college auditions. If you want to play as a hobby that’s fine too!
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- Yes
- Where and with whom did you train?
- I am currently studying at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama with Daniel Jemison and Helen Simons. Past teachers include Meyrick Alexander, Keith Rubach and Gordon Laing. I have played in masterclasses with Robin O’Neil and Rachel Gough.
