- Personal Message
- I enjoy having the opportunity to teach people English and British culture. It is an enormous pleasure to find new and exciting ways to teach English that help the student to achieve their goals.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- English as a foreign language
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- I have:
University of Cambridge ESOL Level 5 Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA) at the higher B Grade.
University of Cambridge ESOL Level 4 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) (this is the qualification needed to teach in further education colleges)
BA (Hons) English Literature and History
MA Children's Literature
I have completed Continuing Professional Development courses at the Institute of Education, London for ESOL teaching skills in ‘speaking, listening, reading and writing’. - What kind of experience do you have?
- I have worked with adults in a language department of a college to multi-lingual groups of students at different levels. I teach Upper-Intermediate to European students in London within a language club. I teach beginners and Elementary English to refugees, either on a one-to-one basis in their homes, or in small groups for conversation. I lead ‘walk and talk English conversation’ groups in London, with students whose level is intermediate and above.
I previously worked in theatre and was an independent trainer in London for 15 years in the health sector. - How much do you charge?
- I charge £25-00 per hour plus £5-00 for travel. For two or more people, the rate is £15-00 per hours plus £5-00 for travel.
The first lesson is free. - Where do you teach?
- I teach in my home, in the student’s home or place of work. I also teach in cafés or other spaces (such as parks or interesting London buildings) when it can be useful to further develop vocabulary, conversation skills and confidence.
I teach in Putney, Wandsworth, Battersea, Tooting, Roehampton, Balham, Clapham Junction, Hammersmith, Fulham, Shepherd’s Bush, Richmond-upon-Thames, Barnes, Wimbledon, Morden, Kingston-upon-Thames, Croydon, Clapham Common, Brixton and Lambeth. I am prepared to travel across London to other boroughs. - When are you available?
- Monday to Friday during the day or evening.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I teach adults i.e. 16+. I enjoy teaching Beginners, Pre-Intermeidate, Intermediate and Upper Intermediate
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- Yes. I teach English as a foreign language to vulnerable adults so I have an up-to-date enhanced CRB.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
- If you are keen to learn English and want lots of practice speaking to a native English speaker, I am sure that I can help you. I like to find interesting and exciting ways to learn English and sometimes I will suggest that we spend our hour in a café or museum or a short walk in a park (if it isn’t raining, of course). This way, you will develop your vocabulary and conversation skills as well as enjoying some different places in London.
