Personal Message
As a piano and cello teacher I believe it's important to create a positive environment to learn in.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach piano, cello and music theory.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I attained my Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand and then did my post graduate studies for a Kunstlerische Ausbildung in Cello at the Staatliche Hochschule fuer Musik, Trossingen in Germany. I also have ABRSM Grade 8 Piano with Distinction. I also did ABRSM Theory to grade 8 with Distinction.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have 12 years experience in teaching both piano and cello. I have taught from ages 4-62. I have experience in group teaching, such as running workshops, as well as individual. I work in a school as well as teaching privately. I mostly work with young children and teenagers but also enjoy working with older pupils.
How much do you charge?
I charge £35 per hour but this is reduced to £30 pounds and hour if you come to me.
Where do you teach?
I teach at home in Hither Green and throughout London including Greenwich, Blackheath, Dulwich, Catford, Lewisham, Ealing, Holland Park and Earlsfield. I am happy to travel to students homes.
When are you available?
I am available throughout the week and on weekends.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach from age 4 upwards. I am comfortable teaching from beginner to advanced levels.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I can prepare students for ABRSM exams or just for fun. It's up to the students. I think exams can be a great source of motivation but it is also important to focus on making music and having a good foundation.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have an enhanced CRB check and a DBS.
Where and with whom did you train?
I am originally from New Zealand so I studied in Christchurch first, getting my Bachelors in Music (Cello Performance). I then moved to Germany to continue my studies at the Staatliche Hochschule fuer Musik, Trossingen. I then moved to London to take part in the training orchestra Southbank Sinfonia.
Do you have a personal message for students?
I think it's really important that as a learner of an instrument you have faith in your abilities and that they are fostered. Learning an instrument can be a great way of finding a new way to express yourself.
