Miriam has completed a course in instrumental string teaching, a course in Music Workshop Leadership and a course in Music Therapy at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
What kind of experience do you have?
Miriam has 8 years experience teaching Cello and Leading Music workshops. She currently leads group cello classes in primary schools across London and teaches from her home one to one.

Miriam currently works as a Cello Tutor for the Tri-Borough of Kensington, Chelsea and Fulham and as the Lead Cello Tutor for the Every Child a Musician programme in Newham.

Miriam is regularly invited to work for The London Philharmonic Orchestra's Education team as a string tutor at The Southbank Centre and has also worked as a string tutor on the LPO's holiday course 'Animate Orchestra.'

Miriam is also involved in leading interactive music workshops for groups of young people. She has led interactive singing and rhythm based workshops in mainstream and special needs schools from primary to secondary levels.

I am an active performer as a cellist both in classical ensembles and in popular bands. I have performed in venues such as Wigmore Hall with my piano trio 'The Bedriska Trio,' and toured across Europe. I have recorded cello on sessions regularly played on BBC radio 2 and 6 music and recently had a no. 1 hit in Germany. I performed in the Cultural Olympiad in The Royal Festival Hall and at International festival 'United Islands Festival,' Prague.

Where do you teach?
I teach at my home in Brockley, South East London. I have a Music Room specifically for Cello Teaching, which looks onto the garden and has an upright piano.

I may be able to come to your home depending on the location if you have a problem coming here. I don´t charge a travel cost for 1 hour or more length lesson.

Please don't hesitate to contact me with your location and current situation, and I will see if I can come to you to teach.
When are you available?
I am flexible with times, and I always try and find a time that works for you.

The most lesson slots I currently have free are in the mid week daytimes, although weekends and weekday evenings I also have some available slots.

If you are a student at school I can fit you in after school one day from 4pm onwards. Or else I have one or two slots on a Saturday morning/ possibly afternoon free.

If you are an adult working 9-5pm, I can offer slots on a weekday 7.15pm- 8.15pm, or a weekend slot.

N.B. I ask all my students to remain flexible in occasionally changing time or day when possible, because I am a free-lance Cellist and I perform regularly on different days.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I currently teach students aged between 8 and 65. But I would accept beginners aged from 6 years old upto any age- it is never too late!
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
If students would like to take exams, which I encourage although it is not compulsory, I follow the ABRSM syllabus.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have a full and up to date DBS which I can show you upon request. Please don´t hesitate to ask for this at your, or your childs first lesson.
Where and with whom did you train?
The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama- Cello studied with Richard May

Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance- Cello studied with Natalia Pavlutskaya and Richard Markson

Masterclasses: Leonid Gorokhov, David Finckel.
Additional Lessons with: Alice Neary, Pal Banda, Peter Esswood.
Tell me about some of your current students.
One of my students is age 12 and preparing for his grade 2. He is making great progress, and we have fun playing whilst developing his technique on the cello. I am also teaching him music theory a bit each week to help develop him as an all round musician. Another of my students is age 25 and preparing for her grade 6 cello. In the short time she has been learning cello her ability is impressive, and dedication admirable. I have helped her develop her bow hold and technique using Sevcik Exercises and we have been working on her vibrato and thumb position. Learning as an adult can often be challenging in finding time, but it can be the most rewarding break and contrast from a stressful job.
Do you have a personal message for students?
Playing the cello can be hugely rewarding, motivating and enjoyable. Building your technique on such a beautiful sounding instrument can be very rewarding with some regular commitment.
